When Harry Potter die-hards were compiling their Christmas lists, new material from J.K.Rowling was probably more than most fans dared to wish for. But a Christmas miracle has occurred, as the author has promised 12 new Potter stories to help fans countdown to the 25th of December.

An email sent out to subscribers of Rowling’s Pottermore site revealed that beginning on Friday, December 12th, they’ll be releasing a new surprise story every day at 1pm (UK time). Fans were also promised “even a new potion or two”, as part of the daily festive treats.

At least one of the stories is said to focus on Harry’s old Slytherin rival Draco Malfoy, but after that who knows who’ll make a special Christmas appearance. The site also tells Potter fans to log on daily to answer “rhyming riddles to unwrap a #PottermoreChristmas surprise.”

Back in July Rowling surprised and delighted fans when she released an update on Harry and his friends, by way of a Quidditch World Cup report by Rita Skeeter, set after the wizard’s 34th birthday. She then gave fans a Halloween treat when she released six new stories including one focusing on villain Dolores Umbridge.

While the final Harry Potter book was published in 2007, in recent months it seems Rowling has enjoyed revisiting some of her favourite characters. While we can't predict that a new Potter book could be on the way, it certainly seems that Rowling isn't ready to give up the famous franchise yet.
