“We always knew it was going to be more than one movie, and we said a trilogy as a placeholder,” the 51 year old author announced. “But I’ve done the plotting properly and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be five movies.”

The movie is due to hit cinema screens on November 18th, and tells the story of fictional author and magizoologist Newt Scamander (mentioned in the Harry Potter series) and is set in early-20th century New York – 70 years before young Harry reads his book for the first time in Hogwarts.

A sequel to Fantastic Beasts… had already been confirmed, but the likelihood of a further three movies delighted the hundreds of fans in attendance at the event. “This is where I was interested in going. This is what I wanted to do,” Rowling added.

Redmayne, speaking to the Press Association, said that Rowling “has the most extraordinary imagination of our generation and she has created something entirely different. That world is spilling out of her head in a unique way.”

The 34 year old British actor revealed he was already a huge fan of the Potter books before he was cast. “We all grew up with them. They were always like a safe place you could go to every one or two years. Whatever was happening in the world, you could go and hang out with Ron and Hermione and the world would be a better place.”
