Jk Rowling's Harry Potter books should be banned from all public schools in Gwinnett County, Georgia because they promote witchcraft, a hearing heard yesterday (03OCT06). Mother LAURA MALLORY brought the case to the state's Board Of Education hearing after Gwinnett County officials decided to keep the Harry Potter books on their library shelves. Mallory told the hearing that Rowling's books encourage children to perform spells. She said, "When my children are at school, I'm trusting them to the teachers and that school. They are my most precious things in the entire world to me. I surely don't want them indoctrinated into a religion whose practices are evil." However, the Gwinnett school board attorney VICTORIA SWEENY countered, "When you start removing books and access to ideas, you would pretty soon have no use for a media centre." Following the 45 minute hearing, Buckland will now make a recommendation to Georgia's Board Of Education.
