JJ Abrams Reacts To 'Star Wars VII' Millennium Falcon Leak...But Not How You’d Expect

Jj Abrams Carrie Fisher Mark Hamill Harrison Ford

With a movie as large and far-reaching as the new Star Wars, Episode VII, it was always going to be impossible to stop certain juicy details from leaking to the eager fanbase. Director Jj Abrams is notoriously secretive but even he has had to give in after a sneaky production team member shared several shots of the Millennium Falcon spaceship being built in some kind of hangar.

The director tweeted a photo of what appears to be the hologram chess board that appeared in the original Star Wars trilogy bearing a note that read "I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VII. And making ridiculous claims that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie. - JJ."

Basically, Abrams is making fun of all the people speculating over whether the Falcon will be featured in the movie by saying 'yes fools, of course one of the most famous spaceships of all time is going to be in my movie.'

Mark Hamill Jj Abrams Billy Dee Williams

There’s about a million reasons we can’t wait for Star Wars Episode VII to come out. Yes, we know it’s not due for release until the end of 2015, but that’s not stopping us from a spot of Star Wars speculation! We’ve already got an inkling that the Millennium Falcon will make an appearance from scanning the background of production pics, but if there’s 7 other things we absolutely must see in the new film it’s got to be these.

Millennium Falcon Photos From 'Star Wars 7' Set Leak: Could It Be?

Jj Abrams Carrie Fisher Lupita Nyong'o Harrison Ford Mark Hamill Gwendoline Christie Peter Mayhew Domhnall Gleeson Adam Driver

We have been given our first look at the brand new Millennium Falcon that is being built for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, thanks to an alleged photo leak TMZ has published. The new shots, which are purported to feature full-size space vehicles from the sci-fi franchise, have strongly hinted that Han Solo's iconic spaceship and others will be included in Jj Abrams upcoming reboot.

If the photos are real, they are evidence that Abrams' team has decided to create full-size versions of the vehicles that George Lucas' movies only made in miniature model sizes. It will also indicate that Episode VII will use minimal CGI effects in favour of high spec props and spacecraft models. Eagle-eyed observers also spotted what looks like an X-Wing starfighter amongst the other unknown constructions.

The photos were evidently taken in some kind of cavernous hangar which fans are speculating could be England's Pinewood Studios, where much of the movie's filming will take place. Vast sets are shown being built out of wood and covered with ladders and scaffolding as Abrams' vision slowly takes form.

J.J. Abrams has written to the cast and crew of Star Wars: Episode VII, encouraging them in the production began shooting last Friday (16th May) in London.

J.J. Abrams is directly Star Wars Episode VII.

Abrams sent a touching note to every member of the cast and crew stating what “an honour” it was to work with them and thanking them for all the “work past and future.” Abrams, who is directing the upcoming instalment in Star Wars, wished the actors well and asked they “take good care” of themselves and “each other”. The picture was obtained by moviefone and appears to have been written on a discarded piece of script paper. He also reminded them of the magnitude of the task they are taking on. Towards the end of his note he wrote “the world awaits this film,” encouraging his cast and crew with “let’s give ‘em something great!”

Carrie Fisher On 'Star Wars: Episode VII': "They Hired Me Minus 35 Pounds"

Carrie Fisher Star Wars Jj Abrams

Tom Hanks, Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale have all shed pounds in a dangerously small amount of time in the name of art. But you rarely hear of women doing the same thing for a role, probably because they’d be accused of having bulimia or anorexia.

Carrie FisherCarrie Fisher and her mother Debbie spoke about Star Wars on the red carpet

When Carrie Fisher played Princes Leia back in the 70s and 80s she became a sex symbol because of a certain golden slave bikini. And, despite reprising her role over four decades later, it has been revealed that she was cast on the proviso that she shed 35 pounds.

Is Roberto Orci The Right Choice To Direct 'Star Trek 3'?

Roberto Orci Jj Abrams

Roberto Orci is allegedly in discussions to direct ‘Star Trek 3.’ The job had originally been pegged to go to J.J. Abrams, although (unless you noticed) Abrams has got his hands full directing the upcoming ‘Star Wars Episode VII.’ Abrams had directed the first two 'Star Trek' movies from the rebooted franchise, 2009’s ‘Star Trek’ and 2013’s ‘Star Trek Into Darkness,’ but the lure of ‘Star Wars’ was apparently too much for him to stick around to direct a third movie.

Roberto Orci Star Trek 3 Roberto Orci is in discussions to direct 'Star Trek 3' since J.J. Abrams departure from the project

So, who is Roberto Orci? Does he have what it takes to take over from J.J. Abrams, and does he have the CV to back it up? The answer’s pretty much a straightforward ‘yes.’ Orci has also been involved with the previous two 'Star Trek' movies, working on both as an executive producer. So, it’s safe to say that he knows the project pretty well. It sounds like they’ve essentially chosen Abram’s right hand man to take his place.

Zac Efron And Lupita Nyong'o Still To Join 'Star Wars Episode VII' Cast?

Zac Efron Lupita Nyong'o Jj Abrams

Zac Efron and Lupita Nyong’o had both been heavily tipped to be joining the cast of Star Wars Episode VII. So, imagine our surprise when the cast was announced earlier this week but their names weren’t on the list!  Although Jj Abrams has announced a string of actors billed to appear in his upcoming movie, there are rumours that the casting announcement isn’t yet complete. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Abrams “has another substantial role to fill - and it’s a female part.” How much truth there is to this report is obviously debatable, but we do know that there’s been strong evidence suggesting both Nyong’o and Efron will be joining the cast.

Star Wars cast Is the Episode VII cast complete, or will there be a second announcement?

Nyong’o was reported to have met with director Abrams in March when they discussed the Oscar-winning actress playing one of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s offspring. Lupita is probably the hottest actress around at the moment, fresh off her Academy Award win for her performance in 12 Years a Slave. Although Lupita met with Abrams in March, she hasn’t been the only female actress rumoured to have landed a role in Episode VII. Newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers’ name has also cropped up a few times. It’s not too unlikely for a fairly unknown actress to be cast, since relatively unheard of Daisy Ridley was announced as a main cast member on Tuesday.

Rumours have been rampant over recent weeks and are bound to get even more inventive in the coming months. The original Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill has been keeping his lips tightly sealed when being quizzed about 'Star Wars VII'.

Star Wars Episode VII: What Does That Darth Vader Selfie Mean?

Jj Abrams Benedict Cumberbatch Tom Hardy

The marketing hype for Star Wars: Episode VII officially kicked off when an Instagram for the film was inaugurated with a picture of Darth Vader. As Disney, Lucasfilms and whichever part of the organization is involved in PR know, they can’t just post that and not expect a fresh turn of the rumor mill.

Star Wars logoStar Wars: Episode VII is coming in 2015

It almost certainly means Darth Vader will be making an appearance in the film, leaving hardcore sci-fi fans pondering the context in which he’ll star. Most likely are flashbacks; to bed out the story for a new, younger audience, the screenplay – which has had plenty of problems – might include historical scenes from the mind-matter of Luke Skywalker to fill out any potential plot confusion. In this case, we can’t see casting news for Vader hitting the headlines, as the part won’t be significant enough.

'Almost Human' Is Almost Worth Getting Exciting About

Karl Urban Jj Abrams Michael Ealy Mackenzie Crook Lili Taylor Minka Kelly

Almost Human is the latest series from Fringe creator JH Wyman, working under Jj Abrams' Bad Robot banner and airing on Fox last night (17 Nov.). Set 35 years in the future, in a world where police officers are partnered with human-like androids, the show stars Karl Urban and Michael Ealy as they combat a crime-filled Los Angeles in a show that has already shown some early promise, a handful of critics agree.

Karl Urban stars alongside Michael Ealy on Almost Human

Urban and Ealy, starring as Detective John Kennex and the DRN model android Dorian respectively, are the show's odd couple and central characters and despite their differences, by the end of the series premiere alone it becomes pretty clear that they make a formidable pair. They are just two parts of a pretty wicked ensemble cast that also includes Joe Smith, Mackenzie Crook, Lili Taylor and Minka Kelly, but in spite of all the big names, Almost Human is still struggling to win everyone over with its first episode.

Lucasfilm/Disney had planned to audition for several parts in J.J Abrams' new movie on Saturday and Sunday at Glasgow's Wasp Studios in the Southblock building in Merchant City, though that plan has been scrapped and the auditions will now take place on November 30 and 1 December with a venue to be announced in the next few weeks.

The decision comes after an unexpected amount of aspiring actors turned up to auditions in Bristol.

Saoirse Ronan may be one of Hollywood’s most promising young stars, but she won’t be yielding lightsabers or galaxy-hopping when the Star Wars franchise is rebooting with Episode VII. The New York-born actor announced that she would be auditioning for the role.

JJ Abrams Explains Why He's Looking To The UK For 'Star Wars' Cast

Jj Abrams Star Wars

Earlier this week it was announced that auditions were to take place, beginning on Saturday, 9 November, across the UK in order to find the male and female lead for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. The move may have been unexpected many who would have expected the usual Hollywood casting call, but as director Jj Abrams recently explained, he had always planned on tapping the UK talent pool rather than treading on familiar soil.

Speaking on the BBC's Newsnight programme, Abrams discussed the upcoming Star Wars reboot and explained that when it came to finding the right actors and actresses to take the Star Wars story further, his team had to hunt for the "best possible" talent. Their searches, apparently, brought them to the same nation where much of the movie is going to be filmed: the United Kingdom.

"It wouldn't be Star Wars unless there were some fantastic actors who happened to be British," the filmmaker told writer Neil Gaiman. "We were looking everywhere for the best possible actors for the role. Nothing is more important. There are things that are as important, but nothing is more important than casting a movie great and I have been incredibly lucky to be involved in projects where we've had wonderful cast and wonderful casting directors too to make it happen."

Is Joe Cornish Ready For The Star Trek 3 Challenge? Will He Get The Job?

Joe Cornish Jj Abrams

Having gained a niche but dedicated following alongside Adam Buxton with their comedy antics, Joe Cornish has made the successful transition to film directing and writing. But is he ready for his biggest challenge of all time? And will they even give him the Star Trek 3 job?

The position is vacant due to J.J. Abrams' decision to jump ship and join the other galaxy of Star Wars – Episode VII, despite numerous casting and script problems – due for a summer 2015 release.

Cornish does have film pedigree: his low-budget flick, Attack the Block, featured a full-scale alien invasion and the subsequent reaction from a small group of impoverished London teenagers. It was a triumph of sorts, and certainly announced the director’s talents.

Uh Oh: 'Star Wars Episode VII' Might Go Ahead With Filming Despite Script Problems

Jj Abrams Harrison Ford

So desperate are Jj Abrams and Disney to meet their 2015 deadline for Star Wars Episode 7, they’re thinking about just filming some stuff without a script.

I know, it sounds like something a college film student kid would do, except these guys are responsible for one of the biggest franchises of all time.

Kathleen Kennedy, who is exec producing on the film, has been pushing for a delay, but the powers that be won’t budge, and insist that a summer 2015 release date is paramount. It can’t be missed, even if it means the film is rubbish - they haven’t said that, but they really don’t need to.

What Do We Know About 'Star Wars: Episode 7' So Far?

Star Wars George Lucas Jj Abrams Harrison Ford Mark Hamill Carrie Fisher Disney

Star Wars: Episode 7, is a phrase that either strike fear into the hearts of Star Wars fans the world over, or instil a sense of reluctant optimism in others. No matter how you feel about the rebooting of George Lucas' genre-defining sci-fi series, it is happening and there is nothing we can do about it. What we can do though is mull over every little rumor and tidbit that Disney have managed to let sneak on to the internet, and try to understand exactly where the movie's makers are in the filmmaking process.

George LucasJJ Abrams
Lucas is handing the baton over to Abrams

We do have some concrete facts about the movie so far; that Jj Abrams is directing it, or at least we're pretty sure that he still is anyway. During the summer there were rumors that the Lost creator was on the verge of stepping down from the project amidst creative differences with Disney. Having initially declined the invitation to direct the next instalment of the Star Wars franchise, his commitment to the project had always seemed somewhat in doubt, but as the months have gone by it does look as though he is committed to the job. Abrams is a pretty competent director and his involvement in the project is a promising one, providing that he doesn't go overboard with the lens flare like he did on Star Trek.

Benedict Cumberbatch To Reunite With 'Star Trek' Director In Star Wars Episode 7?

Benedict Cumberbatch Jj Abrams

British actor, Benedict Cumberbatch has been reportedly added to the cast of the Upcoming 'Star Wars: Episode VII'. Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, the speculation may be accurate as the director of the new Star Wars film (J.J. Abrams) also worked with the British actor in 'Star Trek into Darkness'.

Benedict starred as the villainous, superhuman Khan who was widely praised for his portrayal with Michael Dequina from ThemovieReport.com commenting "Cumberbatch, with his otherworldly aura of menace and basso profundo rumble of voice, makes a worthy and memorable Big Bad in the annals of Trek lore."

J.J. Abrams has re cast the British actor according to Film Chronicles as "Lucasfilm are about to make a big casting announcement regarding Star Wars VII, and that casting announcement appears to be none-other than Benedict Cumberbatch"

A gravelly voice narrates a dark shoreline scene, beginning "he arrived knowing nothing of himself" as a shot of a starry night sky pans to the water's edge where a silhouetted, bedraggled figure is trying to pull himself out of the sea. Because what begins at the water shall end there," adds the narrator ominously as the mysterious figure attempts to rid himself of what looks like ropes around his wrists.

Can We Look Forward To A Tangible Star Wars Episode VII?

Jj Abrams Harrison Ford George Lucas Star Wars

From the jerky horrors that made Jason’s life a misery, the flesh eating shark that terrorized the small island of Amity to the world’s biggest cruise liner falling victim to an iceberg, special effects and CGI have been married to film for as long as it has existed. The very act of filming something was once considered a special effect, as the audience of L'arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat would almost certainly attest to.

George LucasEpisodes IV, V and VI - great. I, II and III - not so good

Nowadays, films Pacific Rim and Avatar lead the way with blue screen CGI techniques, designed to make the unreal, real. The tiger, Richard Parker, in Ang Lee’s Life of Pi was so believable, it won the special effects team an Oscar.

George Lucas Admits Star Trek Paved The Way For Star Wars: Agree?

George Lucas Gene Roddenberry Jj Abrams Disney

George Lucas has chucked a massive bucket of cold water on the entire Star Trek/Star Wars rivalry by suggesting Gene Roddenberry's sci-fi television show paved the way for his legendary space franchise. A new documentary titled Trek Nation sees Rod Roddenberry attempt to uncover the importance of his father's TV series, and rivalry producer Lucas is hugely complimentary of the show, reports Yahoo Movies.

"Star Trek softened up the entertainment arena," he explains in the documentary, "so that Star Wars could come along and stand on its shoulders." The filmmaker suggested that Star Trek crucially proved to studios that audiences were hungry for science fiction, "There was an effective group of people in the beginning who accepted it," he said, "That it wasn't that far out. For the studios it was way far out. [They said] 'What is this?' But there was a fan base out there - primarily the Star Trek fan base -who understood science-fiction, understood visual science-fiction, and was ready for something like [Star Wars] to be in the feature arena."

Lucas certainly has plenty to be thankful for, recently selling LucasFilm to Disney for a cool $4 billion, safe in the knowledge that his sci-fi franchise will continue with new movies and TV series. Set to hit theaters in 2015, Star Wars Episode 7 will be directed by Star Trek's Jj Abrams.

Star Wars Episode VII Character Casting Descriptions: Would You Fit The Bill?

Jj Abrams George Lucas Star Wars

Comic book blogsite Bleeding Cool has uncovered the main character casting details for the new Star Wars 7 film, where desirable traits for each auditioning actor are outlined.

The list that sounds more like a lonely hearts column than desired characteristics for the new instalment to the action fantasy franchise, includes such terms as "good sense of humour", "witty and smart" and "thirtysomething male intellectual".

The call for two "late-teen" females will add more firepower to existing rumours that believe that the main protagonist will be female, but seeing as the list isn't in billing order this should still be taken with a pinch of salt.

Star Wars Episode VII Shooting In London – J.J Abrams Is Moving House

Jj Abrams Star Wars

J.J Abrams is used to living and working in L.A, but he’ll have to endure a change of scenery to shoot Star Wars VII, as the legendary sci-fi franchise is set to resume in the English capital of London.

So secure and happy is he in L.A, Abrams has actually delved into his own pocket to ensure filming takes place there, but Disney weren’t having it with this one; they paid over $4bn for the right to make this movie, and by Jove they’re going to shoot it in London! Speaking at the Produced By conference, he is quoted by The Guardian as saying, "(It) really does make me insane... When you're 13 and 14, it's like, 'F**k that, I don't care what the movie is'..." He adds of the Star Wars project, "It is so massive and so important to people. I think the key to moving forward on something like this is honouring but not revering what came before." In other Star Wars news, and we really love Star Wars news, the franchise is set to begin filming in 2014.

Abrams – the man tasked with the job of revitalising the waning series – says: “It is so massive and so important to people."
