So, did Jimmy Kimmel’s Tracy Morgan prank at the Emmy Awards 2012 actually work? If you didn’t tune into the awards ceremony, host Kimmel, 44, teamed up with the 30 Rock star to try and fool Twitter users into believing Morgan had passed out on stage.

Kimmel told viewers to tweet, “OMG Tracy Morgan just passed out on stage at the Emmys, turn ABC on now!” before getting the comedian to lie down on stage and telling them, “Just lie there for about 10 minutes or so, and when people tune in they'll see this on the stage.” The comedians managed to fool the Twitterverse, with Twitter TV announcing, “OMG 25,000 tweets instantly thanks to OMG Tracy Morgan Emmys…Thanks Jimmy Kimmel!” though was it really that much of a success? The actor Omar Epps didn’t appear to think so, tweeting, “The consensus on my timeline is y’all aren't feeling the Tracy Morgan stunt,” while other users were left cold. Kimmel had previously told Entertainment Weekly that his prank was going to be “the biggest prank ever pulled”, saying, “I am gonna do something very weird during the show… The audience will be a participant in this. So it’s important that you watch because you’re either going to be in on it or not.” In the end, everyone would probably agree that is was far from the biggest ever.

Nevertheless, Kimmel was credited for keeping the show running at a solid pace and his quips were relatively inoffensive and light hearted.
