End twerking forever? Twerking gone wrong turns out to be Jimmy Kimmel prank gone so, so right.
Jimmy Kimmel, late night host, prankster, part of the team behind “Channing All Over Your Tatum” is at it again. Any self-respecting citizen of the internet will remember last week’s viral video sensation of a girl, whose enthusiastic twerking led to a nasty fall, after which her sweatpants caught fire from a nearby candle.
Watch the full video (with commentary by Kimmel) below.
Yes, we know, human misfortune, hilarious. Apparently though, and this isn’t that big of a surprise if you think about it, the video was fake. An extended cut, released by Jimmy Kimmel was released today, showing the rest of the video. Fortunately, the girl gets extinguished quickly. Unfortunately (for those, who had fun repeating “See, this is what happens when you twerk” ad nauseum) it’s Kimmel, who bursts into the room, extinguishes the unfortunate twerker and gives a thumbs up to the camera.
It was all fake! Everyone can relax now.
Before the reveal, the video had been watched over nine million times, picked up by several television outlets and of course, fingers had been pointed. Some put the blame for the trend on Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance (despite the fact that the dance has been around for a long time) and most used it as an opportunity to warn that twerking could be dangerous. The same concerns were expressed to the stuntwoman, which Kimmel introduces in the extended video, before the hoax was revealed.
They had everyone going.
In fact, before Monday’s show, "Caitlin Heller" (whose real name is Daphne Avalon) received numerous worried messages from concerned friends, relative and even an ex-boyfriend. Hopefully those will stop now after everyone knows the video was staged. In his introduction, Kimmel also expressed the hope that the incident, however fake, will also put a stop to the twerking trend. For some reason, we don’t think that’s on the cards.
