A guitar owned by Jimi Hendrix and Beatles lyrics handwritten by Sir Paul McCartney will go under the hammer in New York next month (DEC06). The Fender Stratocaster acquired by the late Purple Haze icon in 1968 is expected to fetch as much as $120,000 (GBP67,000), while MCCartney's MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER lyrics are valued at $300,000 (GBP167,000). Christie's spokeswoman Helen Hall says, "MCCartney lyrics rarely appear on the market and have not appeared for about six years." Also up for sale at Christie's Rock and Pop Memorabilia auction on 4 December are love letters written by Bob Dylan and a 60-minute recording of an interview with JOHN LENNON.
