Don't let the sunny melodies and cute lyrics fool you; Jim Noir is one tough cookie. His latest single, the irresistible My Patch (released on May 1st) comes with a stern warning. "If you ever step on my patch, I'll bring you down, I'll bring you down."
Think of Jim's patch as a psychedelic allotment, where musical morsels sprout from multicoloured soil. Jim, our able gardener, nurtures his seedlings with tender care, until harvest brings a bunch of delicious ditties for our delectation. In this sense, My Patch is Jim's prize-winning rose. No wonder he wants you to tread carefully.
A standout track from his outstanding Tower Of Love album (near-enough perfect, according to the nation's critics), My Patch scored a winning reception on Jim's recent UK tour, where fans nationwide bounced along to its rubbery bassline with glee. Built of ukulele pluckings, a skiffle-time drumbeat and heavenly harmonies, My Patch is, quite simply, one of the year's most inventive tracks.
