One day after the Jim Henson Co. announced that it was severing its relationship with Chick-fil-A because of the company's stance on homosexuality in general and gay marriage in particular, the fast-food chain said that it had ordered what it called a "voluntary recall" of all Jim Henson Creature Shop Puppet Kids Meal toys. The Chain cited "a potential safety concern" because children could get "their fingers stuck in the holes of the puppets." The notice was seen as a retaliation by Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy against the Henson company's strongly worded comments about his anti-gay remarks and its decision to turn over its profits from its deal with the chain to GLAAD, the gay rights organization. Although several reports referred to the items in the children's meals as "Muppet toys," the Henson company no longer has any direct connection to The Muppets, having sold its interest in the characters to the Walt Disney Co. in 2004.
