British comedian/TV presenter Jim Davidson has been declared bankrupt after failing to pay a GBP1.4 million ($2.5 million) tax bill. Davidson claims that Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs refused to negotiate new terms as he struggled to make payments amounting to GBP400,000 ($720,000) a year. The 52-year-old comic and television presenter said he was "forced into this position" despite wanting to settle the bill. He says, "This is kind of a shock to me. The tax man has, for reasons best known to himself, pulled the rug out from under my feet. I am still pretty solvent. I wanted to pay my debts - I still do. "I have paid the majority of this off. The taxman has forced me into this position - that's why I feel angry rather than sad and disappointed."
