It’s been twenty years since the first ‘Dumb and Dumber’ movie and later this year we’re set to join the dimwitted duo in the long-awaited sequel. With a release set for November, let’s bring you up to speed on ‘Dumb and Dumber To’.

Dumb and Dumber To
Dumb and Dumber To - here's an example of the laughs...

Twenty years is a very long time in-between movies and for a while it really seemed as though we would never see Harry and Lloyd’s on-screen reunion. The sequel was first hinted at by the Farley brothers in 2012 and things seemed to be moving forward until the project hit a speed bump in the summer. The original cast seemed to be on board and suddenly the studio, Warner Bros., didn't seem interested in reviving the characters again, causing Jim Carrey to drop out of the project.

While the Farley brothers continued on the script, Warner Bros. allowed the pair to pitch other studios and the sequel was eventually picked up by independent company, Red Granite in 2013 with Universal Pictures on board to handle the distribution. Things finally looked concrete for the sequel when filming was announced to begin in September 2013.

With everything set in motion, both Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels agreed to reprise their roles as the loveable best friends Harry and Lloyd, because lets face it, who else could do it? On their new adventure they’ll be joined by Laurie Holden, best known for her work in ‘Silent Hill’ and as Andrea on ‘The Walking Dead’. Holden will play a doctor’s wife who takes advantage of the pair for her underhanded scheme.

Bringing some real star power is veteran actress Kathleen Turner, but what's even more exciting is that Jennifer Lawrence will make a very special cameo playing the younger version of Kathleen’s character. Jennifer had previously expressed her love of the original film, even reciting a line live on Jimmy Fallon. Rob Riggle - who’s currently tied up making ’22 Jump Street’ - will also star as a weirdo the pair encounter. Billy the Blind Kid, Brady Bluhm has also signed on to reappear, as has Canadian ice hockey star Cam Neely.

When it comes to the plot this is where things get very sparse with the exact details being kept very well under wraps. All we know is that the film will follow Harry and Lloyd as they try to track down one of their long lost children in the hope of gaining a new kidney. Kathleen Turner is thought to be playing the child’s mother. It's also set 20 years after the original, but don’t worry time hasn't made the pair any smarter.

Dumb and DumberJim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are back as Dumb and Dumber

Last year Bobby Farley said, "I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them and it’s 20 years later." That’s exactly how we want them. We can speculate that during their journey they may come across some familiar faces, after Peter Farley revealed on Reddit, "We have some of the greatest cameos in film history in Dumb an[d] Dumber To. However, we want to keep them as a surprise. I will say this, some of the names I've seen bandied about are incorrect. But you won't be disappointed."

Can they top J-Law? We can't wait to see. Another surprising but very cool addition to the movie is that Empire of the Sun will be providing the movie’s soundtrack, which was revealed by the Farley brothers on twitter last August.

Dumb and Dumber To’ is scheduled for release on November 14, 2014. Filming has already begun in Atlanta, with the first official picture being released. The Farley brothers are, of course, directing, and have also penned the script. Also giving a hand with the writing is Sean Anders who’s recently helped out on ‘Horrible Bosses 2’ and ‘We’re the Millers’. After 20 years away, it's going to be interesting to see how Harry and Lloyd are received. If the duos' original magic is still intact, you can be sure that ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ will be a surefire hit for both those who remember the first one and a whole new generation.
