We get the feeling this Dumb & Dumber sequel could have been a lot cleverer - a lot slicker than this. The return of Harry and Lloyd probably represents a considerable payday for Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, though the classic original has a legion of quote-loving fans and you can't help but think they deserved a little more.

Twenty years since their first adventure, Lloyd and Harry go on a road trip to find Harry's newly discovered daughter who was given up for adoption.

"What felt fresh in Peter and Bobby Farrelly's original "Dumb and Dumber," with the Carrey-Daniels dense duo channeling the Stooges and Jerry Lewis and something else entirely, feels strangely old-fashioned two decades later," said Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times.

"The Farrellys are still not much interested in film as a visual medium, and when Lloyd and Harry aren't smacking each other or dropping their pants, you might as well be listening to a radio play," wrote Manohla Dargis of the New York Times.

"There's much more plot floating around during the sequel, all leading up to a climax at the "KEN Conference" that suffers in comparison to Silicon Valley's mockery of the same milieu," said Ed Gonzalez of Slant magazine.

"Is this worse for Jim Carrey or Jeff Daniels? That's the sort of question that comes to mind while not laughing at "Dumb and Dumber To."" said Mick LaSalle of San Francisco Chronicle.

Nevertheless, Dumb & Dumber To should probably open to around $30-32 million this weekend and will easily recoup its $40 million budget by next week. According to the tracking, the film is still resonating with fans of the original movie and that's where it'll do most business.
