British pop stars Jessie J and Little Boots are backing an online campaign to clean up the devastation from riots which have caused chaos in London since the weekend (06-07Aug11).
The British capital has been under siege from rioters who have looted stores, set fire to buildings and clashed with police in several areas across the city.
The destruction was sparked by the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man by police officers in Tottenham, North London on Thursday night (04Aug11), and unrest quickly spread across London over the weekend, with police tackling hoodlums on Monday (08Aug11) as well.
But community-driven locals have set up an online group, the Riot Cleanup, to overcome the carnage - and Jessie J, who is sporting a cast on her broken foot, is fully backing the initiative.
In a series of posts on her page, the Price Tag hitmaker writes, "Watching the news. I really don't understand... I don't get it??!!! Why destroy your own community? Why hurt innocent people. This is Not how to gain respect. This is Not how to get justice. This is Not how to gain peace. Am I in a film or real life?! Wtf (what the f**k) is this going to achieve? I can't understand it...
"I want to rip of my cast and go help clean up!!! I hate that I can't walk. Please go to and see where you can help get London back to how we all deserve it to be."
Little Boots tells her fans, "I'm both scared and sickened by what is going on and sincerely hope everyone caught up in this is ok. Very sad times. Follow @RiotCleanUp for more information on how you can help today."
Linking to the website, KT Tunstall adds, "Huge respect", while British rapper Professor Green says, "I really hope people band together to put this right with as much enthusiasm."
