Jessica Chastain is in talks to star in 'Interstellar'.

The 'Zero Dark Thirty' actress could star in Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated sci-fi blockbuster alongside Matthew Mcconaughey and Anne Hathaway, reports Deadline.

The film's plot has been shrouded in secrecy, but it's thought the flame-haired actress would play the third lead role in the sci-fi movie, which is said to be based on physicist Kip S. Thorne's theory that wormholes exist and can be used for space travel.

The movie is a co-production between Warner Bros. - where Nolan previously directed the smash hit 'Dark Knight' trilogy - and Paramount Pictures.

The project was conceived by 'Lincoln' director Steven Spielberg in 2006, who commissioned Nolan's brother Jonah Nolan to write the script. However, Spielberg left the project, allowing the Nolan brothers - who have collaborated on numerous films, including the 'Dark Knight' trilogy, 'The Prestige' and 'Memento' - to come together once again.

The new script is thought to be a combination of Spielberg's movie and an original idea from Christopher.

Chastain recently earned an Oscar nomination for her role as CIA agent Maya in Kathryn Bigelow's 'Zero Dark Thirty' and has also signed on to star in World War II drama, 'The Zookeeper's Wife'.
