The stars lined up in Los Angeles as the first major animation film of the year celebrated its premiere at the weekend (February 2, 2013). Escape From Planet Earth has been produced by Rainmaker Entertainment - so far mainly famous in the film world for its rather dubious Barbie movies. However, this looks like a different story for Rainmaker, with an impressive cast including Brendan Fraser, Jessica Alba, Rob Corddry and Sarah Jessica Parker assembled to voiceover their tale of alien space combat.
The film is scheduled to come out on Valentine's Day, February 14, but though there will undoubtedly be some romance in the film, it's very much about action, as Brendan Fraser's character Scorch Supernova finds himself relying on the help of his geeky brother Gary (Rob Corddry) to get him out of a tight jam against a hostile alien planet. A star-studded cast also includes William Shatner and Sofia Vergara, though the main stars of the premiere at the weekend were main actors Alba, Corddry, young Jonathan Morgan Heit and Cody Simpson. Harvey Weinstein was also in attendance; the The Weinstein Company are distributing the film and hopes are high at it could provide something of an early year success for everyone involved. We'll get to find out in a couple of weeks.
