Sir Nicholas Hytner, the man responsible for bring the likes of War Horse and The History Boys to the National Theatre, is to step down.
Sir Nicholas Hytner, the man who led the National Theatre to huge success and through various degrees of controversy in the past 10 years, is to step down from his post as director in 2015. The 56-year-old will officially leave at the end of March 2015, after previously signalling his intentions to step down, reports the Press Association.
Hytner has been the man in charge during the National Theatre's great highs, including The History Boys, War Horse and One Man, Two Guv'nors, though he came in for his fair share of criticism following the staging of Jerry Springer: The Opera, which brought a huge backlash from Christian groups. Following a performance screened by the BBC, it led to death threats against several television executives.
Speaking of his exit, Sir Nicholas said, "It's been a joy and a privilege to lead the National Theatre for 10 years and I'm looking forward to the next two. I have the most exciting and most fulfilling job in the English-speaking theatre, and after 12 years it will be time to give someone else a turn to enjoy the company of my stupendous colleagues, who together make the National what it is." Executive director of the National Theatre Nick Starr will also leave his post near year after 12 years at the helm.
Steve Wilkos was hit square in the face with a metal bowl after a fight broke out among guests on his reality television chat show this week. The former Jerry Springer bodyguard was hit just above the eye and temporarily lost his vision after one of his guests launched the bowl across the room while fighting with family members.
A video obtained by TMZ.com shows Wilkos taping a segment called "My daughter tried to poison me," and sees one woman losing control and grabbing a chair, before hurling the metal bowl towards Wilkos. The host holds his face in agony before crumpling into a heap on the ground. Almost comically, another woman shouts, "Ohhhhh you going to jail!!!" Sources say Wilkos - a man of considerable physical stature - was briefly hurt but suffered no serious injuries. The bowl - a prop used on set - has a large dent in it, though it has since been bolted down as to prevent any further bowl-based injuries.
Wilkos' own talk show premiered in September 2007, featuring the former bodyguard using his abrasive approach to solve disputes. He was previously known for stepping in to interrupt or separate guests on The Jerry Springer Show, with the crowd often yelling STEVE! STEVE! STEVE! in support of his actions.
Taylor Swift, Jerry Springer, Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria Thomas and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were among the mass of arrivals for the 2012 Ripple of Hope Awards Dinner at The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights in New York City.
Ringmaster is basically a behind the scenes look at The Jerry Springer Show. It follows two trailer trash families who come to Los Angeles to be on the fictional Jerry Show. I think this movie is a comedy but I didn't crack a smile once. Is watching two sluts sleep with any man who wants to supposed to be funny? The only entertaining point of the movie was at the end for about a minute. I won't give it away but it involves a religious person in the audience who has an argument with Jerry. As for acting, Jerry isn't that bad. He's convincing in his role but you have to realize that he's playing himself. I have to admit that occasionally I turn on Jerry's actual show and I enjoy it. But I don't even think fans of the show will like it.
