The 'Seinfeld' Reunion, Was That Really It?

Jerry Seinfeld

The ‘Seinfeld’ reunion, that everybody knew was coming but wasn't sure what exactly it would be, turned out to be a whole lot of not much in the end. Excited fans felt more than a bit let down when a just over 60 second spot aired during the Superbowl on Sunday.

Jerry Seinfeld, the sitcom's creator and star, kept fans guessing over reunionJerry Seinfeld, the sitcom's creator and star, kept fans guessing over reunion

A few weeks ago everybody seemed to be buzzing with anticipation, when stars Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander, were spotted at Tom’s Restaurant in New York, yes the restaurant which was better known to fans of the show as Monk’s Cafe. The pictures of Jerry and George, sorry Jason, together got everybody wondering if it was finally happening, a fully fledged 'Seinfeld' reunion. Typically, Jerry himself didn't do much to stop speculation, he even told fans it was not an episode of ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffees’ or a Superbowl ad but it wasn't “NOT those things either!”  Well sadly, it turned out it was.

Seinfeld Super Bowl: Not The Seinfeld Reunion We Were Hoping For

Jerry Seinfeld Jason Alexander Seinfeld

Appetites were well and truly whetted; the rumor mill was in full flow. Yes, the sighting of Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander – stars of America’s favorite comedy, Seinfeld – outside Tom’s Café in New York brought back the hysteria of the 90s sitcom, as fans and media outlets alike attempted to guess the reason behind their meeting.

Jerry SeinfeldIf the 'comeback' was a litmus test for a real reunion, don't expect to see the gang together anytime soon

But the Comedians in Cars/Seinfeld/Superbowl advert mash-up – is it turned out to be – wasn’t brilliant. It’s difficult to pin why or how it wasn’t brilliant, but something was amiss. Perhaps it was the hype: Jerry was answering questions when he appeared on WFAN’s “Boomer & Carton” show, hinting at the project.

YES! Secret 'Seinfeld' Project Confirmed By Jerry - Everything We Know

Jerry Seinfeld Jason Alexander Larry David

It’s been on the cards. Seinfeld did an AMA on Reddit in which he hinted at a secret project with Larry David – another one of the brains behind the phenomenal success of 90s sitcom, Seinfeld. Then he was pictured talking to Jason Alexander outside the iconic Tom’s Café, NYC.

Jerry SeinfeldWhat the hell is going on Jerry Seinfeld?

Seinfeld was in the mood for answering questions when he appeared on WFAN’s “Boomer & Carton” show. Usually so tight-lipped, it’s hard to imagine he had any other intention of whetting the public’s appetite for a Seinfeld-esque return.

Is It Bigger Than A Breadbox? Jerry Seinfeld Keeps Mum About New Project

Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld is keeping his new movie or video project irritatingly secretive, but he did drop some hints about the cast and premise. Seinfeld is keeping things hush-hush for the most part, although he revealed that his Seinfeld co-star Jason Alexander will appear in it as George Costanza, "the short, stocky, slow-witted bald man" he played on the NBC sitcom from 1989 to 1998. In addition, USA Today reports that Seinfeld co-creator Larry David is involved, though he will work strictly off-camera.

Jerry Seinfeld, Bee Movie Premiere
Seinfeld is working on a new thing and that's pretty much all he's willing to say.

The buzz around the possible mini-episode (or whatever it turns out to be) started when Seinfeld and Alexander were spotted outside Tom's Restaurant in Manhattan earlier this month. On the show, the diner was a stand-in for Monk's Cafe, where Seinfeld's characters often met for meals.

Jerry And George Seen Outside Tom's Cafe - 'Seinfeld' Is DEFINITELY Coming Back

Of course it’s not definitely coming back, but it’s a laugh to talk about Seinfeld making a return to screens, and Jerry Seinfeld being spotted with Jason Alexander outside the iconic Tom’s Café in New York is a great place to start.

'Seinfeld' Reunion On The Cards? - Jerry And George Spotted Filming At Tom's Restaurant

Jerry Seinfeld Jason Alexander Larry David

Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander helped make Tom's Restaurant a internationally-known hang-out when Jerry, George, Krammer and Elaine used it as their regular haunt on hit 90's sitcom Seinfeld. On Monday, 13 January, Jerry and George (who was played by Alexander) visited their old haunt once again, prompting rumours of a possible Seinfeld reunion.

Jerry Seinfeld
Jerry Seinfeld was spotted with his two former co-workers

It wasn't just Seinfeld and Alexander who were there either, as series co-writer and Curb Your Enthusiasm mastermind Larry David was also allegedly spotted at the dinner, as was a camera crew catching their actions - or at least Jerry and Jason's. This was clearly no chance meeting and the presence of the camera crew has only escalated rumours that a follow on or potential spin off for Seinfeld could be on its way, however the more likely explanation is that the two were filming something much less exciting.

Jerry Seinfeld Grabs Coffee, With Comedians, For Online Talk Show

Jerry Seinfeld Louis C.K. Patton Oswald Howard Stern Tina Fey Todd Barry Jay Leno

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee might sound like the name of a not-very-exciting viral video, but it is in fact Jerry Seinfeld’s own talk show. It is coincidentally a web series, which does exactly what it says on the tin – it’s an hour of Seinfeld and a fellow comedian riding around, drinking coffee and being (hopefully) very entertaining. The format was inspired by an episode of his infamous 90s sitcom. In the episode in question, Jerry’s pal George decided success might await him if he lived his failed life in the opposite manner.

Jerry Seinfeld, 2013 Hampton Classic
Seinfeld wanted to put a new spin on the classic talk show format.

“That,” recalls Seinfeld in a recent interview, “gave me the idea to create a talk show that was the opposite of the typical show. “With a typical talk show,” he explains via the Sun Times, “you have to go to a studio. You have to tell them in advance what you’re going to talk about. You have to dress up. You have to put on makeup. It’s very, very organized.

Sen Rand Paul Tweets Washington Grievances In True Festivus Style

Sen. Rand Paul Celebrated Festivus In Style.

For those who don't watch Seinfeld or live in America, Festivus is the atheist's response to Christmas popularised by the US sitcom. An antidote to the inevitable festivity and cheer, Festivus was born from the family tradition of the show's writer Dan O'Keefe and incorporated into the script.

Jerry Seinfeld Bemoans Mets Fans' "Terrible Manners"

Jerry Seinfeld Larry David

Jerry Seinfeld – America’s biggest comedian and most probably the Mets’ most successful fan – has condemned the behaviour of the Citi Field crowd, comparing them to five-year-olds as they booed players at the 2013 MLB All-Star Game.

Jerry SeinfeldSeinfeld and that laugh

Talking to New York’s WFAN radio on Wednesday, Seinfeld said: “This is one of the lowest moments of my lifetime of Mets fandom, when the Citi Field crowd was booing (players) that they see as rivals to their Mets team.” He told Steve Somers: “And I’m standing there, I was in shock. I was embarrassed. I thought it was horrible manners.”

Jerry Seinfeld Featured On Wale Rap Album! [Video]

Jerry Seinfeld Wale

Seinfeld star Jerry Seinfeld dropped by in the studio when Wale was recording his new album The Gifted. It may sound like two more unlikely performers couldn't collaborate to top team Wale/Seinfeld but their partnership hasn't exactly emerged out of the blue.

Wale's admiration of 59 year-old Seinfeld became clear when he released 2008's The Mixtape About Nothing, which references his favourite TV show and included cameos from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays Elaine in the NBC show, along with dialogue snippets and a mixed up version of the theme music.

Seinfeld - who's latest project includes the online series 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' - said he's a Wale admirer and is scheduled to spit some lyrics on Wale's planned post-Gifted work The Album About Nothing. The video from the studio shows Seinfeld appearing as though he'd wandered into the wrong studio and forcing his way on to Wale's tracks.

'Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee' Season 2 Premieres Today

Jerry Seinfeld Larry David Ricky Gervais

There’s no hidden premise, no hidden meaning. Jerry Seinfeld’s latest project comprises him, a fellow comedian, a car and some coffee. The cars are beautiful things – all vintage and expensive looking – and the chats are nothing less than hilarious and engaging.

Season 1 included gusts like Larry David, Ricky Gevais Jerry’s Seinfeld costar Michael Richards, who played Kramer on the show so masterfully. Seinfeld’s and Richards chat is something to behold; it’s genuine and touching. A real mastery of ‘chat’. Of season two, Seinfeld said: "I know these people, and this is it — this is what they're really like. You walk out on a talk show, you know, 'I'm on here for eight minutes; I want to make sure I tell a funny story or do an interesting anecdote.' You're not just going to be sitting there tapping a coffee stirrer on the table, but you can do that on this show. So nobody feels that pressure to perform, and I do feel like I am capturing their true demeanor and energy." If you like old cars, comedians OR coffee, then you’ll have already seen season 1.

Other highlights include Bob Einstein, who plays Marty Funkhouser in Curb Your Enthusiasm. But what fans will be dying to see is the full unedited content, as the shows are just 10 minutes long. "It's simple to shoot, and we do spend a lot of time reducing what is sometimes a two- or three-hour experience down to what I feel is the juiciest 14 minutes of that. I think editing is one of the great luxuries. I think it's one of the things life really needs,” added Seinfeld.

Frank Ocean was among the winners at the 17th Annual Webby Awards, highlighting achievements on the internet. This year's awards were selected by judges in the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, including Huffington Post boss Arianna Huffington and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.

Ocean won for his bold 'Thank You's' letter on his Tumblr, which announced his past relationship with a man. He wrote, "4 summer ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless. There was no escaping." Ocean was roundly applauded for his decision to come out, and has since gone onto enjoy huge success with his album Channel Orange.

Elsewhere, Jerry Seinfeld won for his web-series Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, which featured guests including Ricky Gervais and Larry David. Actor Kevin Spacey received an award for his role in setting up Netflix's $100 million series House of Cards.

Seinfeld's Kramer Set To Make Television Comeback

Michael Richards Jerry Seinfeld Jason Alexander Julia Louis-Dreyfus Seinfeld

Everybody's favourite Seinfeld character, Kramer, who was lovingly played by Michael Richards, is set to grace the small screen once more alongside Cheers actor Kirstie Alley in the US sitcom pilot for Giant Baby.

Richards will play a limo driver for Alley's Broadway star, who has to deal with the son she gave up for adoption coming back into her life. He rose to prominence with his excellent work, mastering the art of slapstick comedy while punctuating it with some excellently delivered lines. His quirky acting style and signature cheesy grin have become iconic, and his performances alongside pals Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza and Elaine Benes culminated in one of the most powerful comical quartets in television history. He was, however, embroiled in controversy when, inexplicably, he shouted racial slurs against hecklers during a standup appearance at a Los Angeles comedy club. It was out of character, and Richards issued a heartfelt apology, even correcting those that found it funny, asserting that it was in fact a very serious matter.

It looks like Jason Alexander, who played the part of George in Seinfeld, is still to really do any meaningful work after Seinfeld. Jerry is still doing stand up, which sells out most of the time, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine) has Veep, and now Richards has a new pilot. The whole gang got together on Curb Your Enthusiasm for a comeback show written by Larry David.

Fans Treated To A Shania Twain Horseback Arrival For New Gigs

Shania Twain Elton John Jerry Seinfeld

Most stars turn up in a limo, but Shania Twain's horseback arrival at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Nov. 14, 2012 has set the benchmark. No more limos, guys, the bar has been raised.

Twain was marketing her new show, which is titled 'Shania: Still the One' and opens Dec. 1, 2012 at the Colosseum. The 47-year-old singer didn't just ride a single horse down the strip, oh no, that wouldn't be ridiculous enough. Instead, she sat atop a horse among a herd of 40 other horses in a slow, organized stampede. Now, of course, a real stampede is neither slow nor organized, but promoters used the term to generate excitement for Shania Twain's horseback arrival. "We could either lose a few hundred dollars inside or come out and see what kind of spectacle she puts on," said Steve Huffman, a UPS manager from Charleston, W.Va., who watched with his wife, Debi, from an overhead pedestrian walkway, according to Yahoo News.

Despite releasing her self titled album way back in 1993, Shania only has four studio albums to her name, with The Woman in Me, Come on Over and Up all being subsequently released. Regardless her relatively small output, she is considered to be one of the country-music scene's greats, and her two-year residency at the L.A hotel, where stars such as Elton John and Jerry Seinfield perform, is testament to her influence as a musician.

Jerry Seinfeld Live Show Announced To Raise Money For Hurricane Victims

Jerry Seinfeld Colin Quinn Lady GaGa

Popular Comedian, Jerry Seinfeld, the man behind one of the most popular shows in American comedy, has announced a live show to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I grew up on Long Island, and New York City is home," Seinfeld, 58, said in a statement. "This is a tough time for this area, and we're just glad to be able to help in the recovery."  Born in Brooklyn but raised in Massapequa, Seinfeld will perform with opening act Colin Quinn Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury, with all proceeds donated to local relief organizations. Tickets for the event go on sale Nov. 30, and will likely be very popular considering his last set of live shows, two of which - currently sold out - have been converted into hurricane benefits, which basically means instead of buying expensive coffee with the money, they'll give it away.

Other celebrities dedicated to the cause of helping out their native America include Lady GaGa; the extravagant hitmaker has pledged to donate $1m, saying on her website: "If it wasn't for NYC . . . I would not be the woman or artist that I am today . . . Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia [Germanotta], and my sister Natali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours."

Lindsay Lohan And Other Celebs Have Their Say On Hurricane Sandy

Lindsay Lohan Jerry Seinfeld Melissa Joan Hart Kim Kardashian

Safe from Hurricane Sandy in their ivory towers, snuggled in their million tog quilts whilst they see what other people are saying about them, the celebs are have their say on Frankenstorm.

"WHY is everyone in SUCH a panic about hurricane (i'm calling it Sally)..? Stop projecting negativity! Think positive and pray for peace," Lindsay Lohan posted on her Twitter page, possibly forgetting that 'Sally' has actually claimed human lives, and has the potential to take more. "9 months from now hopefully we will have some cool Hurricane Sandy babies! On the west coast we never get to bond over weather panic. We're like oh no an earthquake for 2 seconds, then go to spin class or whatever," said actress Mindy Kaling, who has presumably watched a few disaster movies, and decided that everyone, when faced with the possibility of death or loss of a loved one, fornicates. No Mindy. Kim Kardashian, not known for her immediate sense of empathy, sent a far more sensible tweet, which read "Back in Miami now. Missed the storm. I'm praying for everyone on the East Coast. I hope everyone is safe!" and on a similar vein, Melissa Joan Hart wrote "I have at least 2 family members in evacuation zones that haven't left and 2 more in the center of Sandy. Praying they stay safe!"

Jerry Seinfeld, who basically made a living out of noticing things, noticed the New York City mayor's attire. "Mayor Bloomberg going with zip up neck sweater to fight Sandy. Shows preparedness. Windy: zip it up Storm over: back up." Presumably he meant, "back down"? Anyway, our thoughts here at Contact Music go out to anyone affected by the storm. Good luck.

Bee Movie Review

Weak
The majority of Dreamworks' animated films are second rate to those of Pixar. For every Antz, there's a much better A Bug's Life. In a year dominated by the brilliance of Pixar's Ratatouille, Dreamworks' Bee Movie plays out more like a B-movie (pun intended) than an A-list competitor.

Bee Movie is the brainchild of comedian Jerry Seinfeld. With Seinfeld, Dreamworks had the perfect opportunity to produce an animated feature about insects that could swim in the same genome pool as the bugs of Life. Instead, there's very little sting to this movie, and aside from a few select moments of brilliance, Seinfeld's film about the lives of bees is largely inconsistent, unfunny, and visually uninspiring.

Seinfeld: Season Seven Review

Excellent
Season seven finds Jerry Seinfeld and gang still riding a wave of popularity and impressive creativity. In this season's best episodes, catch-phrases still in wide use were created ("The Soup Nazi" is one of the series' best-loved episodes and a highlight of this box set). Even lesser episodes are still impresive: George's embracing of the calzone as a favorite lunch treat, which becomes boss Steinbrenner's treat as well, is as guilty a pleasure as the series ever put forth.

But most of the episodes exhibit that same intense sense of vague dissatisfaction with life and ironic displeasure with just about everything that became staples of Seinfeld. Whether Jerry's trying to snag a marble rye, Elaine is deciding the "sponge-worthiness" of her sexual conquests, or -- in the season's major running plotline -- George is doing anything to get out of his impending wedding (which he succeeds in in the season finale), the show remains completely watchable and never short of hilarious. Alexander's frustration with fiancee Susan makes him a real centerpiece of the season, as even Jerry himself takes a back seat to George's insane antics.

Comedian Review

Very Good
Comedians are not funny people. If we're to believe Christian Charles' aptly-titled documentary, they're obsessive, jealous, self-loathing, analytical and petty. Remember, dying is easy and comedy is hard.

Two paths are followed in Comedian. On one, a comic on the verge of success named Orny Adams receives what could be a career-defining break. On the other, an entertainer who climbed to the top of the heap named Jerry Seinfeld surveys his newly-acquired kingdom following the end of his highly-successful sitcom.
