American comedian Jerry Lewis was made a Commander Of The Legion Of Honour in Paris, France, today (16MAR06) to coincide with his 80th birthday. The KING OF COMEDY star broke convention by wearing a pair of slippers to the formal event - and repeatedly checked his watch and joked during the French Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu De Vabres' 20-minute presentation speech. In his brief acceptance speech, Lewis spoke of the Gallic people's natural sense of humour and said he has "loved France for the past 60 years". He was also presented with a giant birthday cake in addition to his coveted medal.
