Legendary comedian Jerry Lewis collected a staggering $60.5 million (GBP37.8 million) to combat muscular dystrophy during his 38th annual LABOR DAY TELETHON.

Jerry, 77, was assisted by 80-year-old veteran Ed McMahon during the 21 hour event which saw performances from stars including Celine Dion and Cher.

Jerry - who suffers from pulmonary fibrosis - says, "I'm consistently humbled by the generosity of the American public. Every year I ask, and without blinking, you open your hearts and wallets.

"You've also let 'my kids' of all ages, and their loved ones, know that they aren't alone in this fight."
