Jermaine Jackson has opted to change his name... kind of. He's really only changing the spelling, from Jackson, to Jacksun. But, with one of the most famous and most successful pop-music names in history, it seems a really bizarre move to change it at all. Nevertheless, that's what he's doing, and he has filed a name change petition in LA, according to E!

A spokesperson for the singer told E! "His actual name has not changed. It's just the spelling, one letter. It is a personal choice of Jermaine's and it's not a big deal... Phonetically, it changes nothing. It is something he has chosen to do, and it's fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you've got to blame it on the sunshine." They also told E! that the change of name was for "artistic reasons".

Jermaine isn't the only artist to change his name for 'artistic reasons', although we can't entirely understand his choice, there are plenty of artists whose name change was definitely a good thing. Who would ever guess that a man with the very pedestrian name of 'William Bailey' could ever turn into Axl Rose? Billy Idol was born William Broad, Busta Rhymes original name 'Trevor Smith' and model Twiggy was called Leslie Hornby until fame found her. All these celebs have had to give the star treatment to their names, but there are others who have had to tone them down. Both Cary Grant and Dido had names that were a bit of a mouthful, originally called Archibal Alexander Leach, and Florian Cloud De Bounevialle Armstong, respectively. Well, the name change has worked for all these stars, perhaps the 'sun' will bring whatever Jermaine's looking for.
