Jermaine Jackson is set to abandon his musically royal last name 'Jackson' to the slightly random 'Jacksun' for purposes only given as 'artistic reasons'.

The Jackson 5 star, who is the fourth of the nine Jackson children and the brother of the late pop superstar Michael Jackson, has apparently filed a request for the name swap at the Los Angeles County Superior Court and will use the new moniker on his personal documents including his passport if his application is accepted. However, several media announcements must be made for it to be considered his official name. According to Fox News, a friend of Jackson, Steve Dennis, has defended the decision. 'Phonetically, it changes nothing. It is something he has chosen to do, and it's fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you've got to blame it on the sunshine', he joked, in reference to the Jackson 5 hit song 'Blame It On The Boogie'.

The news comes while Jackson currently tours with his brothers, Jackie, Marlon and Tito, as The Jacksons (as opposed to Jackson 5) which makes one wonder why he would suddenly want a name swap given this apparent reunion. However, the files state that the change is indeed due to 'artistic reasons' rather than hopeful estrangement from his superstar family who have had their fair share of conflicts since Michael's death.
