Jennifer Nettles, the American country music singer, teamed up with the R&B superstar Rihanna for an unlikely duet at last night's Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas (3rd April 2011), reports the Press Association.
Rihanna shocked country music fans at the Mgm Grand when she appeared on stage with the Sugarland front-woman. The flame-haired R&B singer showed no signs of being intimidated by the predominantly country music crowd and performed one of her own songs, 'Californian King Size'. Speaking afterwards, Nettles spoke of her delight at Rihanna agreeing to the duet, saying, ""She is a wonderful performer. Obviously, country music is hip and it's cool and it's fresh, and I think her being here tonight is even more testimony to that". The performance wasn't the only unusual mash-up of the night, as American Idol judge Steven Tyler teamed up with Carrie Underwood for a rendition of 'Undo It', which they merged with the Aerosmith track 'Walk This Way'.
Later in the evening, Jennifer Nettles' band Sugarland scooped the award for 'Top Vocal Duo of the Year'.
