Just as Forbes name Jennifer Lopez the World's Most Powerful Celebrity (reported by MTV News, May 17, 2012), doubts have been cast over her future on American Idol. On Wednesday, closes source to J-Lo told E! Online that the singer is simply "too busy" to resume her role as a judge on the show. Could it be, though, that her nose was put out of joint when she learned that Britney Spears is commanding $15million to debut in a similar role on X Factor?
According to Forbes, Lopez can thank her vast wealth and influence on American Idol, saying that the show "gave her a platform to promote her music and turn her image around. It didn't hurt that she also split from her husband, Marc Antony. Suddenly a single mother, Lopez lapped up the media attention and scored lucrative endorsement deals with companies like L'Oreal and Gillette. She now has a line of clothing at Kohl's, a top-selling fragrance and she was able to secure a nice bump - to $20 million - on her' Idol' salary for a second season."
When Fox Entertainment announced their fall schedules earlier this week, bosses at the network insinuated that there would be changes afoot in the next series of American Idol, though they would not confirm what those changes would be. With Jenny From the Block preparing to head off on tour with Enrique Iglesias, though, it certainly looks as though she is starting to turn her focus elsewhere. Fox will be mindful of the fact that securing Lopez with a huge pay-packet hasn't exactly helped the ratings for the show. Could it be time for Idol to say 'so long' to their Latin lady?
