Superstar Jennifer Lopez was a no-show at New York's OLYMPIC torch ceremony on Saturday (19JUN04) after the city's government failed to comply with her extravagant demands.
Bronx-born J.LO was flattered when mayor Mike Bloomberg asked her to perform at the star-studded event, where her ex-love SEAN 'P DIDDY' COMBS and property tycoon Donald Trump carried the Olympic flame.
According to American newspaper NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, Lopez demanded she was flown by private jet from Miami - where she had watched her new husband Marc Anthony perform on Friday night (18JUN04) - to the Big Apple and then back to Los Angeles at a cost of $38,660 (GBP21,477).
The Maid In Manhattan actress requested her usual $9,500 (GBP5,277)-a-night Manhattan hotel suite, and two $1,000 (GBP555) bedrooms for her bodyguard and assistant.
To look her best, Lopez was planning to bill Bloomberg $4,500 (GBP2,500) for her hairstylist ORIBE's bill and $6,000 (GBP3,300) for her make-up artist SCOTT BARNES.
A source tells the Daily News the government could not justify using public funds on the superstar and their sponsors couldn't raise the fees from private donations fast enough.
Lopez eventually cancelled, citing work commitments. However a publicist for her film Monster-In-Law confirms J.Lo was not required on set over the weekend.
The singer's spokeswoman says, "There were discussions regarding who was paying for her to come to town and perform. She was assured it wasn't the taxpayers' money and it was actually private donors.23/06/2004 20:58
