Jennifer Lopez will see her first post-American Idol take her to a path relatively untread in the past, as she looks to go behind the camera to produce her next on-screen project.
Yesterday (August 23rd), ABC Family announced that it is set to begin filming of a new, hour-long family drama, titled The Fosters and that she is set to serve as executive produce on the show. The show will follow the story of a multi-cultural family consisting of both foster and biological children, all of whom are being raised by two mothers. The ultra-modern show is the brainchild of creators Bradley Bredeweg and for Queer as Folk actor Peter Paige and as of now, the casting details are still to be announced.
On top of the new J-Lo produced show, the network has also announced that it has picked up a one-hour drama from Gavin Polone, the executive producer of Gilmore Girls. The upcoming show, titled Socio, follows a supposedly sociopathic teenager who, after reconnecting with his two childhood best friends, soon finds himself as the prime suspect in a murder investigation. The network's executive vice president, Kate Juergens, has spoken highly of the upcoming shows already, saying, "Both these shows are headed by wonderful executive producers who know the millennial space well and know how to connect with audiences."
