Jennifer Lawrence, the 20-year-old American actress and star of the new movie 'Winter's Bone', says she can't begin to describe how she feels after being nominated for 'Best Actress' at the Oscars. Lawrence and her co-star John Hawkes were the surprise inclusions in this morning's announcement (25th January 2011).
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly after receiving news of her nomination, Lawrence said, "I still can't really get the words out, I just. I can't... As you can see. I'm so grateful and happy and thrilled and. tired". Although 'Winter's Bone' won numerous awards at last year's Sundance Film Festival, the movie was not expected to feature in this year's Academy Awards list. As well as the acting nominations for Lawrence and Hawkes, the film has also been recognised in the category of 'Best Picture'. The actress said she was overwhelmed by the movie's success, saying, "When you make a tiny movie like that on a shoestring budget in the freezing cold, this has surpassed any expectation I could've had. And that's why it just feels so good. We all made it without this in mind".
The young actress will have to beat the heavily tipped Natalie Portman to scoop the award for 'Best Actress' but Lawrence says she is just happy to have been nominated, she said, "I really don't care. I'm going to the Oscars!..And I saw Black Swan. I think Natalie Portman was incredible. I'd probably vote for her, too".
