It has just emerged that the man responsible for illegally obtaining explicit images from a number of celebrity women including Jennifer Lawrence a few years ago has pleaded guilty in federal court, and could face a sentence of up to five years in prison for his crimes.

Sentencing has not yet been announced, but yesterday (May 24th 2016) 36-year-old Pennsylvania resident Ryan Collins went through with a plea deal and admitted to just one count of 'gaining unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information' according to a report by Associated Press.

It's important to note that this is but a drop in the ocean when one considers the vast array of crimes he is being accused of; he is alleged to have illegally gained access to over a hundred Google and Apple accounts between November 2012 and September 2014, some of which belonged to celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Rihanna and Kirsten Dunst.

However, the case continues as prosecutors have revealed that there's actually no evidence that Collins was involved in the distribution of the images online, or if he even shared any of his findings with others.

Jennifer Lawrence famously spoke out in anger over the photo leak in an interview with Vanity Fair back in 2014. 'Just because I'm a public figure, just because I'm an actress, does not mean that I asked for this', she said. 'It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It's my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe that we even live in that kind of world.

'It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime. It is a sexual violation. It's disgusting. The law needs to be changed, and we need to change. That's why these web sites are responsible. Just the fact that somebody can be sexually exploited and violated, and the first thought that crosses somebody's mind is to make a profit from it. It's so beyond me. I just can't imagine being that detached from humanity. I can't imagine being that thoughtless and careless and so empty inside.'
