In an interview with People magazine, Jennie Garth has admitted that it took her a while to agree to a divorce, when her marriage to Peter Facinelli started to break down. In the article, she confirms what many had expected: that Peter's career success had taken its toll on what looked, from the outside, to be a fairytale marriage.
Peter and Jennie married in 2001 and have three children together; daughters Luca, 14, Lola, 9 and Fiona, 5. The seemingly tight-knit family referred to themselves as The Facinelli Five and were open about their cosy family traditions, which included family movie nights, camping in an RV and group bingo evenings. However, when Facinelli landed the role of Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the Twilight Saga movies, he was working away from home so much that it put an immense strain on the marriage. "He would do everything he could to fly back every weekend," says Garth. "[But] it took a real toll on our marriage." When it came to talking about divorce, Jennie explains "I was very resistant. I didn't want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it."
In 2010, Jennie and the children moved to Santa Ynez Valley in California, whilst Peter was commuting from Vancouver and New York. He also had his successful role in Nurse Jackie to contend with, on top of the demands of Twilight. Now that they have officially separated, Jennie says that she's unsure what the future holds. "But then I've never been a planner" she explains. "And maybe that's a good thing."
