The 22 year-old actress addressed Nickelodeon's decision to cancel 'Sam & Cat' after only airing for one season.
In recent times, the once thought squeaky clean Jennette McCurdy has managed to tarnish her reputation on more than one occasion, and ultimately these antics forced Nickelodeon to cancel the popular sitcom 'Sam & Cat.'
McCurdy doesn't see herself as a role model
Controversy surrounding the 22 year-old star first arose back in March when racy photos of herself wearing racy lingerie emerged online, and rumors began circulating that claimed the hit TV show was coming to an end because she had a falling out with Ariana Grande, her co-star.
Nickelodeon's hit sitcom, 'Sam & Cat,' is officially canceled. What's the reasoning behind it, and where do the stars go from here?
Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy's ‘Sam & Cat’ is officially over. The popular Nickelodeon sitcom, which was the network’s spinoff of its two hit shows, ‘Victorious’ and ‘iCarly,’ has been canceled after a little over a year and only 35 episodes. "Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of 'Sam & Cat,' the statement said. “We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best." Apparently they weren’t proud enough to give a statement that wasn’t the blandest in TV cancellation history.
'Sam & Cat' was canceled this past weekend
‘Sam & Cat’ had all the ingredients for success - rising stars in Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy, and not to mention a continuation of the extremely popular Nick shows that their characters came from. So, what exactly went wrong to make the network pull the plug so early? Rumors of drama behind the scenes surfaced when racy pictures of McCurdy leaked online back in March, which led to a hiatus in production that was obviously never lifted. Later on that month, during Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards, McCurdy was set to make an appearance but skipped the event, citing personal issues that suggested a fall out with Nickelodeon.
Grande is building an international pop career, so it's no wonder she took the 'Sam & Cat' cancellation so well.
Ariana Grande has penned a heartfelt letter signing off from her short-lived stint as one half of Nickelodeon's Sam & Cat. Rumors had plagued the production for months suggesting that a cancellation of the show was imminent.
"Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat," the network said in a statement, via Deadline, confirming the rumors. Grande had starred alongside Jennette McCurdy in all 40 episodes of the series, which came screeching to a halt when racy selfies featuring McCurdy were leaked online in March.
Then in April reports arose of a rift between the two actresses regarding a rumoured disparity in salaries - something that Grande denied outright at the time.
