Jenna-louise Coleman is switching the Yorkshire dales for the Time Lord's Tardis after being announced as Doctor Who's newest sidekick. The former Emmerdale actress will replace Karen Gillan's Amy Pond character when the Scottish star leaves the show after the next series, reports Bbc News.
Coleman, 25, who has also appeared in Waterloo Road and Julian Fellowes' four part mini-series Titanic, impressed during an audition with Doctor Who star Matt Smith and was given the job by producer Steven Moffat. The young actress, originally from Blackpool, said, "I am beyond excited. I can't wait to get cracking". It will be an exciting debut on the show for the self-confessed Doctor Who fanatic - her character will first appear in the Christmas special. On replacing the popular Karen Gillan, producer Moffat said, "It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl. She's funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the Tardis".
