It seems ‘Doctor Who’ star Jenna Coleman isn't ready to leave Peter Capaldi’s side just yet. While many fans of the BBC series were getting ready to say their last goodbyes to Coleman following this year’s Christmas special, the 28 year old actress has confirmed that she will be returning as Clara Oswald in the sci-fi show's next season.

Speculation had been rife that Coleman would bow out of the series following the Christmas special, however the actress has now said she will be staying, alongside the twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi.

“There is so much more to do,” Coleman told the BBC. “I think they’ve finally just reached a point where they really understand each other."

“The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up.”

Capaldi also shared his joy over the news that his co-star was staying saying, "I'm thrilled. Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with.”

Coleman has played the role of the Doctor’s assistant Clara Oswald since 2012 beginning with eleventh Doctor Matt Smith. However rumours began late this year that she was leaving the show after the series finale in November featured a goodbye hug between the Time Lord and Clara.

This year 6.3 million Britons tuned in to watch the Doctor encounter Santa, played by Shawn of the Dead star Nick Frost. Entitled ‘Last Christmas’ the episode received positive reviews from critics and beat ‘Downton Abbey’ in the festive ratings war.
