Weinstein's 'The Giver' Relies On Experience Of Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep

Jeff Bridges Meryl Streep Taylor Swift Brenton Thwaites

There were nervous, twitchy looks around the various Hollywood studios when Harvey Weinstein announced he was dipping his toe into the young-adult genre. That said, The Giver - based on Lois Lowrys beloved novel of the same name - was never going to be The Hunger Games or Divergent.

The GiverJeff Bridges [L] and Brenton Thwaites [R] in 'The Giver'

It tells the haunting story of a young man named Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) who lives an ideal if colorless world of conformity and contentment. However, when he begins to spend time with 'The Giver' (Jeff Bridges) - the sole keeper of the community's memories - Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of the group's secret past.

The Giver - Teaser Trailer

Jonas is a young man who lives in a community where everybody is the same. Pain and suffering has been abolished by authorities simply by forcing everyone to conform and prohibiting any form of variance. Jonas is about to become an exception to the rule when he is selected as the next Receiver of Memories. His new role requires training from a man called The Giver (the former Receiver) who will subsequently imbue Jonas with knowledge of the world before this compliant society. With that he will understand the pain of death and conflict, but will also begin to understand the importance of love and distinction and it is this that forces him to break away from his community - wishing to live a life with more depth and meaning. However, it soon becomes clear that he's not getting out that easily.

The 10 Worst Films Of 2013

Charlie Sheen Mark Wahlberg Dwayne Johnson Justin Timberlake Ben Affleck Cliff Richard Judi Dench Luc Besson Robert De Niro Michelle Pfeiffer Tommy Lee Jones Status Quo Jeff Bridges Adam Sandler

10. A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III
10. A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III -
Charlie Sheen exploits his bad-boy image in this fractured comedy in which he plays a paranoid idiot who thinks his ex is trying to kill him. But the story is wafer-thin, and the film is almost overpoweringly indulgent.

Pain & Gain

9. Pain & Gain - Michael Bay's comedy may feature enjoyably offhanded performances from Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, but it's also the year's most offensive movie. Playing a true-life murder for laughs is only the first mistake.

StePhest Colbchella Kicks Off With Stephen Colbert Skating Into Our Hearts To The Sound Of 'Get Lucky'

Stephen Colbert Daft Punk Hugh Laurie Jeff Bridges Matt Damon Jimmy Kimmel Jon Stewart Bryan Cranston

Stephen Colbert’s political satire might be top notch, but his dance skills are not to be overestimated. Last night, the Colbert Report host strapped on a pair of roller skates and boogied down to the sound of 'Get Lucky' – the Daft Punk/Pharrell Williams hit that’s become the inescapable soundtrack to this summer. The, um, energetic performance served as the kickoff for Colbert’s summer series of concerts or “StePhest Colbchella ‘013” – it’s what the cool kids call it.

Stephen Colbert, Tribeca Film Fest
Who knew Colbert posessed such hidden talents?

But, of course, the host dancing all by himself would have been a bit sad, so instead he brought in some friends – Hugh Laurie, Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and even Colbert’s former colleague, Jon Stewart – still on leave from The Daily Show – joined in with some tight moves. Colbert’s moves turned out to be too much for the Colbert Report studio, so the shenanigans infiltrated the America’s Got Talent stage and even an interview with Bryan Cranston and the rest of the Breaking Bad cast – at which point Cranston simply joined in for an amazing 70s themed dance routine. We couldn’t do it justice. Just watch the video:

Also starring alongside Jackman are Hiroyuki Sanada (Sunshine) and models Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukishima.

Those who have commented positively on The Wolverine have said the film creates a diverse character which "pumps some feeling into the guy along with his muscles and steel talons" (Geoff Pevere - Globe and Mail). Others, such as Toronto Star's critic Raju Mudhar, have praised the production team for ensuring the "superhero/Asian crime drama mash-up" is successful.

Nightmare Weekend For Ryan Reynolds As 'The Conjuring' Bewitches Box-Office

Ryan Reynolds Guillermo Del Toro Jeff Bridges Patrick Wilson Vera Farmiga Adam Sandler

It was a weekend that Ryan Reynolds would probably rather forget. In fact, it he probably woke-up in cold sweats wondering whether he had another Green Lantern on his hands. The actor starred in two new releases this week, crime-comedy RIPD and the animated flick Turbo - both cost $130 million to make, both were expected to trouble the top of the box-office, both bombed.

RIPDDespite A Pretty Cool Premise, RIPD Failed To Fire At The Box Office

We say bombed: maybe that's a little unfair, though RIPD - also starring Jeff Bridges - took a paltry $12.8 million to sneak No.7 on the box-office, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Seventh Son: Jeff Bridges Flexes His Fantasy Muscles [Trailer + Pictures]

Jeff Bridges Ben Barnes Julianne Moore

The last time we saw Jeff Bridges he was lumbering around the deep West as Rooster Cogburn, being harangued and harassed by the brilliant Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross in 2010’s True Grit. Now he’s some sort of fantasy dojo teaching a young warrior to fight the evil spirits they plague their world in The Seventh Son.

Jeff BridgesBridges looking troubled - it's not easy to relax when evil spirits want to eat your heart

Master Gregory – Bridges’ character in the film – bears no resemblance to anything we’ve seen from the Big Lebowski before. He’s nimble, wise and mysterious as he trains young Thomas played by Ben Barnes (Dorian Gray) in the art of battle.

Where Does 'The Lone Ranger' Rank In List Of Biggest Movie Flops?

Johnny Depp Gore Verbinski Jerry Bruckheimer Jessica Biel Jamie Foxx Joe Morton Rob Cohen Christopher Walken Jeff Bridges John Goodman Matthew Mcconaughey Geena Davis Matthew Modine Frank Langella Disney

Ok, so by now everyone's well aware that Jerry Buckheimer and Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger is a monumental flop - a serious disaster that could cost Disney $150 million. The Johnny Depp-Armie Hammer starring western took just $48.9 million over the usually lucrative five-day Independence Day weekend - leaving it miles from its $175 million marketing budget, not to mention its $250 million production costs.

The Lone Ranger
Johnny Depp starred as Tonto and Armie Hammer played The Lone Ranger

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney is praying for a return of $150 million abroad, taking its worldwide total to $275 million and $150 million short of its $425 million total budget. "It's very disappointing," said Disney executive vice-president of worldwide distribution Dave Hollis. "Everything was perfect on paper, so today was incredibly frustrating." The problem is, nothing could be described as perfect. If Hollis is referring to Johnny Depp than it's lazy marketing. If he's referring to Verbinski in the directorial seat, or the bloated budget, than it's just stupid talk. The Lone Ranger has received some of the worst reviews of the year - it's a terrible movie - and unfortunately, nobody wants to watch big-budget westerns. Did Cowboys and Aliens teach them nothing?

Kevin Bacon Warns His Wife Kyra Sedgwick: "Kale Isn't Always Healthy"

Ben Affleck Is Guy’S Choice Awards’ ‘Guy Of The Year’

Ben Affleck Clint Eastwood Brad Pitt George Clooney Mickey Rourke Matt Damon Jennifer Aniston Jessica Alba Snoop Dogg Vince Vaughn Jimmy Kimmel Henry Cavill Burt Reynolds Jeff Bridges Jake Gyllenhaal Jennifer Garner

Ben Affleck was awarded with the Spike’s Tv ‘Guy of the Year Award’ on Saturday (aired last night). The ceremony took place in Culver City, California. Affleck was presented his antler shaped (nicknamed ‘mantler’) award by fellow Oscar winning actor and director, Clint Eastwood. This is one of many awards; Affleck has received this year including an Oscar for his film Argo.

The Awards were first held in 2007 and previous winners have included Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Mickey Rourke, Maek Wahlberg and Matt Damon. As you’d expect, the awards are hardly female friendly (there is an award named the ‘holy grail of hot’) yet many turned out for the event including Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Alba.

The awards are hardly on par with the Oscars or a Golden Globes – there was a category in 2012 for ‘Hottest Zo(o)e(y)’. The nominations for this particular award were somewhat limited. However, the award’s lack of prestige did not prevent Affleck celebrating backstage with Snoop Dogg, Vince Vaughn and Jimmy Kimmel.

Dude Won't Abide: Coens Play Down 'Big Lebowski' Sequel At Cannes

Ethan Coen Joel Coen Jeff Bridges Oscar Isaac Carey Mulligan Justin Timberlake

The Coen brothers may have emerged as the new favourites for this year's Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival after their new movie Inside Llewyn Davis received five star reviews across the board, though the filmmakers have shot down reports they are developing a sequel to their cult hit The Big Lebowski.

The 1998 comedy about Jeff Bridges' hippie bowler character 'The Dude' is amongst the Coen's most popular work and Bridges himself has spoken of being open to a sequel. "John Turturro, who wants it, talks to us incessantly about doing a sequel about his (bowler) character Jesus," Ethan Coen said at Cannes this week, "He even has the story worked out, which he's pitched to us a few times, but I can't really remember it. No, I don't see it in our future." If Ethan left the slightest possibility of a sequel, brother Joel shut down door firmly shut, "I don't think it's going to happen ... I just don't like sequels," he said.

Jeff Bridges And Ryan Reynold Hunt For Bad-Guys In The R.I.P.D. Trailer

Jeff Bridges Ryan Reynolds

Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds are starring in one of the summers most anticipated action blockbusters, R.I.P.D. and after months of waiting the first trailer for the supernatural, action-packed adventure has gone viral. The buddy cop film will be released in cinemas, in 3-D of course, by Universal Pictures on July 19 this year.

R.I.P.D. (which stands for 'Rest in Peace Department') has been adapted from the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name and follows recently deceased police officer, Nick Walker (Reynolds), who was killed in the line of duty at the prime of his career only to find himself being drafted in to police paranormal activity from beyond the grave. Teamed with the battle-scarred sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges), it's up to these two to catch foul souls that have managed to escape judgment when they were in limbo whilst Reynold's character also tries to track down the man who killed him and drew him into this bizarre world in the first place.

We've all had that moment; looking at photos of our favourite celebs and then jumping out of our seats screaming, 'He's HOW old?!' Well, we've been doing a lot of that here at ContactMusic. Some stars seem to have crept up the age ladder pretty sneakily, the odd wrinkle and grey hair barely registering on our radar, while others don't seem to have aged at all! English football player David Beckham was in his twenties when he rose to global popularity and, looking at his recent H&M underwear advert, it seems that his iconic hairstyles and tattoos are our only way of working out the old from the newer pictures of him. However, he is only 37 and has plenty of time to catch up yet. It's the over-50s that have really had our mouths agape in recent times as we've been scouring the net for the most youthful looking middle to old aged stars.

Video - Jeff Bridges Attends Press Call For His Debut Album 'Jeff Bridges'

Jeff Bridges was at a press junket at Barnes & Noble yesterday, to promote his new self-titled album.

Bridges recently revealed that the original idea for the album was conceived of over thirty years ago, when he became friends with Nashville legend Kris Kristofferson, on the set of epic film Heavens Gate, the press association reported. He also talked about how his love of music has inspired him to take on acting roles that require him to play music: "Whether it's playing jazz piano in Baker Boys or being a country artist in Crazy Heart, it's in me and it's just something that comes out every once in a while."
