Grammy-nominated R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan is stepping back from the spotlight - she's using 2011 to take a break from the music industry and "figure out" who she is.
The Bust Your Windows star rose to fame in 2008 under the guidance of rapper Missy Elliot and garnered critical acclaim with her debut album Fearless, landing a total of eight Grammy Award nominations to date, including one for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at this year's (11) ceremony.
In December (10), she was hailed by Billboard magazine as the Rising Star for 2010, but the 23 year old has stunned fans by revealing she's temporarily hanging up the microphone to focus on her personal issues.
Taking to her Twitter.com page on Sunday (02Jan11), she wrote, "i'm making an official announcement that i am taking a break from music. i'm trying to figure out who i am... w/out a mike, paper or pen. i promised myself when it wasn't fun anymore i wouldn't do it. and here i am (sic)."
The post was later removed, but she uploaded another message to assure devotees she's not suffering any sort of breakdown.
She added, "i'm fine everyone. just switching things up a bit till i get it right."
