Superstar rapper Jay-Z has turned down the job of president at hip-hop record label Def Jam.

The company's boss ANTONIO 'LA' REID begged Beyonce Knowles' boyfriend to replace outgoing executive Kevin Liles but Jay-Z - who retired as a recording artist last year (03) - has so far refused to accept the post, although some believe he may change his mind.

It is reported Reid's offer to Jay-Z - whose own Roc-A-Fella Records is run as a joint venture with Def Jam - were made to prevent him from joining up with LYOR COHEN's WARNER MUSIC GROUP.

A source tells American news website PAGESIX.COM, "This was LA's attempt to keep him so he doesn't go with Lyor."

However an Island Def Jam spokeswoman has denied Jay-Z was offered a position with the company and says, "It's absolutely not true".

Meanwhile Jay-Z's partnership with Damon Dash on Roc-A-Fella is allegedly still on rocky ground - with sources predicting they may go their separate ways.
