Rapper Jay Z has scored his first number one album in the U.K.

The Empire State of Mind hitmaker's new release, Magna Carta Holy Grail, has shot to the top of the countdown and replaced Mumford & Sons' Babel as the nation's top album.

His previous best was Watch The Throne, a collaborative album with Kanye West, which peaked at number three in 2011. The new album is expected to debut at number one in the U.S. later this week (beg15Jul13).

Meanwhile, in what has become a bit of an American takeover in the U.K., Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines has returned to the top spot on the singles chart after spending two weeks at number two.
