The rivalry between the two streaming services might have just become more intense.
Tidal users who were tuning in to the livestream of Lil Wayne’s gig at his Lil Weezyana Festival in New Orleans were left missing out when Drake stopped by to deliver a brief three-song cameo. When Drake hit the stage the livestream stopped, reportedly due to the fact that the Canadian rapper is Apple Music’s main man, while Wayne is a co-owner of Jay-Z’s Tidal.
Drake’s performance with Lil Wayne was cut from Tidal’s livestream.
The Tidal twitter account told users, ”Apple is interfering with artistry and will not allow this artist to stream. Sorry for Big Brother’s inconvenience” as Drake took the stage, adding ”We'll be back after the performance.”
He'll accept the prestigious trophy at Sunday night's televised ceremony.
According to a statement from MTV, ‘Ye is being honoured with the award on account of his “career-spanning groundbreaking videos, legendary VMA performances and continued impact on music, art, fashion and culture.”

Lil Wayne has big news, but not as big as you think.
No, Lil Wayne has not joined Jay Z’s Roc Nation’s label. But you would be forgiven for thinking that, what with Weezy’s cryptic announcement at the KMEL Summer Jam in Oakland. Addressing his fans from the Summer Jam stage, Lil Wayne bragged that he’d “just signed a deal with my motherf***ing idol.”
No, Lil Wayne is not leaving Young Money. Yet.
Alas, it was not a record deal that Weezy was referring to. Instead, he’s partnering with Tidal – that’ Jay Z’s streaming service, keep up – to release his music on the app. Well, there goes one more artist off the Spotify boat.

The study found there had been three music revolutions since the 1950s.
A study by the University of London and Imperial College has concluded that the emergence of hip hop has had the biggest impact on the charts of any genre since the 1950s. The study also found that the importance of The Beatles may have been overstated, suggesting that the fab five did not spark a musical revolution.
The Beatles may not have been that revolutionary
The study found there were three musical revolutions on the charts, the first being in 1964 with the rise of rock and roll bands such as The Beatles. The second was in the mid 80s with the use of synthesisers and drum machines, while the third came in 1991 when rap and hip-hop infiltrated the mainstream charts.

So long, Grooveshark, it's been real.
With all the fuss around Spotify and Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal, other, similarly nautical services may have gone slightly under the radar. This includes Grooveshark, a decade-old service, which closed down this week, with a final message to subscribers.
‘Tidal X: Jay Z B-Sides’ will hit on May 13th.
If you ask most people how they think Jay-Z’s Tidal service is doing, the response will probably be something along the lines of 'not great'. Of course if you asked Jay-Z himself, you’d hear a different story. But facts and figures aside, the rapper turned businessman has just announced he’ll be playing a free concert for Tidal subscribers next month, featuring some of his rarest tracks.
The rapper re-launched the streaming service last month.
Titled ‘Tidal X: Jay Z B-Sides’ the show will stream live from New York on May 13th and see the rapper performing B-sides and other less known tracks. Tidal subscribers are also being given the chance to win tickets to the performance by submitting a playlist on Tidal and sharing it on Twitter with the hashtag #TIDALXJAYZ.

It's been a bad start to life for Tidal, with its mobile app tanking and now Kanye, one of its supporters, apparently deleting all mentions of it from his Twitter feed.
Less than a month after its star-studded New York re-launch, the subscription-only streaming service Tidal is showing early signs that it’s struggling. It’s already tanked on the app store, falling out of the top 700 iPhone downloads chart, and now it appears that Kanye West has deleted all references he’s made to the service on social media.
On Wednesday (April 22nd) Complex reported that the rapper had erased all mentions he’s made to Tidal on Twitter, despite being one of the most prominent supporters of the re-launch, standing alongside Jay Z at the famous press conference on March 30th and appearing in several ad spots for it subsequently. He also changed his profile picture from Tidal’s logo back to the front cover of his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

The rap megastar at the centre of the Tidal streaming re-launch has removed his debut album from Spotify.
The much discussed Tidal revolution seems to already be taking effect. Having purchased the new streaming service as part of a joint venture and re-launching it as an “artist friendly” business model, Jay Z has removed his 1996 debut album Reasonable Doubt from Spotify.
The rapper removed his album overnight between Monday and Tuesday, and it is currently unavailable to stream in the US and Canada. It is, for the moment, still accessible for UK users. Instead, North American fans can find it on – you guessed it – Tidal.

Rihanna backed Jay Z and her LGBT fans in Indiana.
Rihanna has dropped a brand new track, the poetically titled American Oxygen, and in the process, declared her allegiance for Jay Z's new streaming service, Tidal. The track is Rihanna's take on the "American dream," but you've probably guessed this from the title already.
Rihanna has also stepped up in support of Jay Z's new service.
The news here is that Rihanna, just like Beyonce before her and Madonna before that has lent her support for Jay Z's artist-friendly alternative to services like Spotify. On Saturday, Beyoncé also debuted her new track Die With You exclusively on the site. American Oxygen is only available to Tidal subscribers, whose numbers are still disappointingly small. Maybe it's the $10 subscription fee?

On Saturday night Rihanna debuted her new song ‘American Oxygen’ at the March Madness Music Festival in Indianapolis. But no sooner than fans could scourer the internet for a clip of Ri-Ri performing the track, the full studio version dropped...on Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal.
If you’re desperate to hear Rihanna’s new track it might be time to buy a Tidal subscription.
Yes, following Beyonce who, as an anniversary gift to her husband, made her track 'Die With You' available exclusively on Tidal, Rihanna has made sure her latest song will only be heard by Jay-Z’s subscribers.

The 'Happy' star spoke to GQ Style magazine about his recent success.
With pretty much the whole world at his feet having had the biggest selling single of the last few years, you could perhaps excuse Pharrell Williams for being immodest. But in a new interview he was very humble when comparing himself to one of his musical idols Jay-Z.
Speaking with Germany’s GQ Style magazine, the 41 year old said he would “sound braggy” if he were to rap like Jay-Z and use the same lyrics that he does. He believes that all artists should find their own style and that imitating someone else is unlikely to pay off.

Jay-Z is apparently involved in a legal battle concerning his alleged fathering of a love child over twenty years ago. According to the National Enquirer, leaked court documents suggest that Rymir Satterthwaite, a 21 year old aspiring rapper from New Jersey, filed a request for Hova to undertake a paternity test to prove or disprove that he is his father.
Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, successfully fought against this suit five years ago, but in December 2014 a paralegal named Lillie Coley, believed to be Satterthwaite’s legal guardian, filed evidence that the rapper had submitted false information to the court to get out of taking the test.

Gigs in the park are fun and all, but can they really help to end extreme poverty?
So there’s SXSW for the hipsters, Coachella for the fashionable crowd… and then there’s the Global Citizen music festival, which has a different vibe altogether. Held in Central Park, the third annual event featured the likes of Beyonce, Jay Z, Alicia Keys, No Doubt, Sting and fun. The star-packed festival is free to attend and sets itself the ambitious goal of “erasing poverty by 2030.”
After their On The Run success, Bey and Jay graced the Central Park stage in honor of a good cause.
So here’s how it works. The acts all performed for free, with brief speeches by the likes of Jessica Alba, Hugh Jackman and Olivia Wilde speaking in between performances. It was an exercise in raising awareness and putting pressure on world leaders to enact more effective policies on equality. Attendees were also encouraged to take the pledge, which would earn them points to put towards VIP entry.

The singer, who has just celebrated her 33rd birthday shared the four minute clip via her Facebook page.
Beyonce has treated fans to a special look at just what went into making her MTV VMAs performance so spectacular by sharing a backstage video. In the four minute clip, the highs and lows of rehearsals are put on display as Beyonce and her dancers are shown trying to perfect the gruelling routine. First published on her Facebook page, the singer captioned the video, “Flashback Friday! A behind the scenes look at the days leading up to the 2014 MTV VMAs”.

At the event, held last month, Queen Bey delivered a show stealing 15 minute performance of songs from her self titled album. But the rehearsal process was a difficult as you’d imagine, with the singer's temper being put to the test on one occasion.
Kanye West used his Made in America platform to fire a few shots back at Jay Pharaoh.
So Jay Pharaoh’s Kanye West impersonation from the VMAs is still fresh in everyone’s mind, right? Cool. Just checking. Apparently it was still on West’s mind too, when the rapper/designer/artist/superior human being took the stage at Budweiser’s Made in America festival. Over a year later, the trip has finally been declared legal.
Cue the “no longer On The Run” jokes, as Beyonce and Jay Z are off the hook for their 2013 trip to Cuba. The Treasury Department’s Office of Inspector General released a nine-page report on Wednesday, detailing its decision that Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Shawn Carter did NOT violate any laws, when they traveled to the country last year to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
It's ok, the Carters got the "all clear" from the treasury department.
In April 2013, the Carters’ trip to Cuba sparked widespread controversy. Because of the US embargo, tourism to the country is permitted only under a special license. Suspicions were raised that the couple’s visit to the island nation was in fact illegal – because the two engaged in recreational activities such as a welcome dinner, a walking tour of various Cuban neighborhoods and visits to see student artwork and theater performances, the couple were accused of violating the terms of their educational exchange permit. The story got such wide coverage, that Jay Z was prompted to pen an open letter to his critics and mention the incident in a song (also titled Open Letter). In the song, the rapper implied that he and Beyonce had received clearance from the POTUS himself, although the White House later denied giving permission. The new report rebuffs all claims that the Carters' trip violated the embargo.

The show must go on, despite troubling reports from the tour thus far.
Ok, overly enthusiastic music fans everywhere need to reel it in fast, because this is getting ridiculous. Following the bizarre sequence of events, Roberto Alcaraz-Garnica, 25, of San Diego was arrested for sexual battery and mayhem. Here’s how the scuffle allegedly came about.
The power couple have not acknowledged the incident.
“The suspect sexually assaulted the female victim,” Lieutenant John Luna of the Pasadena Police Department told TheWrap Sunday. “The woman's boyfriend confronted the alleged groper, and a fight ensued. During the altercation, the suspect bit the victim, causing serious injury to his finger.”
Beyonce has hit back at suggestions her marriage to Jay-Z is on the rocks by posting a cute family photo on Instagram.
Rumours that a seperation is imminent have plagued the music power couple for months, ever since that night at the Met Costume Gala when Beyonce's little sister Solange attacked her brother-in-law in a lift. Even as recently as today headlines globally suggest the pair are to split, yet Beyonce seemed to hit back at her critics without using her words; instead, she took to her Instagram account and simply shared a sweet photo of herself and beau Jay-Z taking a stroll with their adorable daughter Blue Ivy.
The couple wowed the public back at the Met Gala, and it wasn't just because of their attire

You'd think they'd have bothered to double-check the name spelling of the recipient of the 'Lifetime Achievement Award'!
Whoever was in charge of the captioning at last night's BET Awards should hang their head in shame after they misspelled the name of the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award, Lionel Richie. During the televised coverage of the Black Entertainment Television Awards on Sunday night (29th June), which was watched by millions around the world, the broadcasting team managed to spell Richie's surname as "Ritchie."
Sure, plenty of worse things could have happened, but it's still a pretty embarrassing move considering Richie was practically the guest of honor at the bash. To make matters worse, the mistake flashed on the screen in large lettering as the 65 year-old soul star headed to collect his prize.
Soon the hashtag "#lionelritchie" began trending on Twitter as viewers picked up on the blunder and quickly spread the news leading to embarrassment for the show's production team.

The 'Sweet Dreams' singer's frequent outfit changes were the talk of the evening, with an array of risqué new costumes showcased to dazzling effect. After appearing onstage dressed in a Versace fishnet bodysuit complete with matching balaclava, Bey swapped into a denim playsuit, a Versace leotard and a dominatric-style leather suit.
However, the evening's most widely-shared ensemble was a shining black bathing suit with two holes cut out for buttocks that the star and her backing dancers wore whilst performing the singer's signature booty-shimmy routine.

Jay Z - Jay Z depicted as 'Care Bear Pal' for protecting fragrance proceeds amid racial profiling flak. Artist Daniel Edwards depicts fragrance mogul Jay Z as a Care Bear pal in his latest work dedicated to the rapper's Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, which provides college funding for students with financial need for an unveiling this week on Facebook, announces Cory Allen Contemporary Art. 'Jay Z is an entertainer, not a civil rights activist - he defended future college funds by standing up to the criticism for his refusal to break ties with Barney's New York in order to sell his fragrance Gold, which should be a huge fundraiser for the foundation,' said artist Daniel Edwards, referring to accusations of the department store's practice of racial profiling and the rap mogul's reluctance to take a stand against it by withdrawing his merchandise. Titled 'Jay Z Cares and Shares,' Jay Z is depicted smiling, clad in a suit and tie befitting a mogul and surrounded by the Care Bears. 'We regret that Jay Z's opportunity to educate students to fight a policy of racism interferes with his ability to fund their education,' said Whitney Evans of Cory Allen Contemporary Art, 'but we applaud him for not being deterred from his mission to send people to college.' In 2011, the artist criticized Jay Z by depicting him as a 'Scrooge' in an Occupy Wall Street protest piece known as the 'Scrooge Totem Pole,' saying, 'I think Jay Z has made himself a face of Wall Street that Occupiers are protesting against,' referring to the rap mogul's usage of the movement's name to sell his t-shirts without compensation. Edwards went on to say, "Rap stars who turn 'Scrooge' have to suffer some damage to their street credibility, I would think,' added Edwards. Jay Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, recently said in a statement on his website, "Making a decision prematurely to pull out of this project, wouldn't hurt Barneys or Shawn Carter, but all the people that stand a chance at hig - Los Angeles, California, United States - Thursday 21st November 2013
