Cult singer-songwriter Jay Reatard has died, aged 29.
The acclaimed Hang Them All singer, real name Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., reportedly died in his sleep on Tuesday night (12Jan10).
Reatard was found dead at his home in Memphis, Tennessee on Wednesday morning (13Jan10).
A statement from executives at his record label Matador reads, "Jay was as full of life as anyone we've ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly."
Known for his garage rock sound, Reatard was at the height of his career after his 2009 album Watch Me Fall received widespread acclaim.
He recorded with Beck in 2008 and his Hang Them All was featured on a vinyl single released to mark National Record Store Day in America in 2009.
Reatard recently opened for the Pixies during their latest reunion shows.
A statement from the Pixies reads, "We want to express our condolences to the friends and family of Jay Reatard, on his sudden passing today."
Details of the singer's shock death have not been released.
