Javier Bardem has been offered a role in the next James Bond film.

The Spanish actor has reportedly been given a "major" offer to appear in the 23rd instalment of the secret agent franchise as the iconic Britishs py’s latest foe.

The 'Biutiful' star would be starring alongside Daniel Craig - who will be playing the lead role for the third time - and Dame Judi Dench in the movie, which is to be directed by Sam Mendes.

It had previously been rumoured that British actress Rachel Weisz was going to play the next Bond villain but bosses are said to be unsure about casting her following reports she is romancing Daniel.

A source said recently: "Casting Rachel was going to be a surprise twist as everyone would assume she'd be a Bond girl when really she would play a villain.

"But The Fly in the ointment is that they are now dating."
