Concussion Trailer

Dr. Bennet Omalu is a pathologist who loves his job and, in many ways, the patients that he looks after. His methods are his own but they work for him and he's very successful at his job. When ex-American Football star Mike Webster turns up on his morticians table, Omalu treats his body just like he would any other. What isn't initially known to Omalu is that after years of playing professional football Webster had become something of a recluse whilst suffering with Dementia and depression.

Bennet's initial findings with the late Mr Webber is that he died of cardiac arrest, but unhappy with this conclusion, the pathologist begins to dig deeper. Looking at every possible outcome, Bennet beings to study the brain of the ex-footballer and what he discovers is a new disease that hasn't been seen before.

Before this point, people knew about a condition called Punch Drunk, a disorder often associated with contact sport such as boxing, but up until Dr. Bennet Omalu's discovery the disorder hadn't been seen as a physical effect.

Jessabelle Trailer

Jessabelle is still feeling the horror after a being involved in a car accident which killed her boyfriend and left her unable to use her legs. She travels to the home she grew up in in Louisiana to be with her father and discovers a package there apparently left by her deceased mother. Inside are some video tapes which feature her mother giving her a tarot reading where she explains that Jessabelle is not alone in the house. It isn't long before Jess starts to understand what she means as she begins to feel stalked by a malevolent spirit. She finds a gravestone in the woods with her name and birth date on it and starts to have a number of near death experiences. On telling her father about the tapes, he insists that the thing on them wasn't her mother. So who, or what, exactly is it?

Prisoners Trailer

Keller Dover is just a regular guy from Boston who goes with his wife Grace and six-year-old daughter Anna to their neighbours' house on what seems like a routine social occasion. No parent blinks an eye when Anna asks if she can take the neighbours' daughter Joy to their house to play, but when there's no sign of them back home later on, panic ensues as the families scour the nearby streets trying to find their precious children. The only clue as to what may have happened to them lies with a banged up RV that had been parked nearby. When young Detective Loki gets involved with the case, he manages to make an arrest on the driver - a seemingly timid and quiet young man called Alex Jones. However, with no solid evidence against him for the cops to keep him in custody in the case for the missing girls, they are forced to release him after 48 hours. Keller, angry with the verdict and fearing for the life of his daughter who he believes is still alive, decides to embark on his own investigation and kidnaps Alex at gunpoint in an attempt to extract information. Though through his panic and frustration in his quest to find his daughter, he may lose himself along the way.

Recess Christmas: Miracle On Third Street Review

Good
The teachers and principals of Recess reminisce about those rambunctious kids at Third Street School and how they've contirbuted to the holiday spirit -- whether trying to win a canned food drive or having to spend a weekend with the evil Ms. Finster.

Recess: School's Out Review

Bad
The transition from a half-hour Saturday morning cartoon into a full-length feature film is always a tough sell. It hardly ever works because the attention span of the average child has been reduced to five nanoseconds, making a 22 minute cartoon difficult to stretch. The resulting feature typically looks cheap and underdeveloped on a big theater screen.

In fact, the few successful transitions of series to the big screen have been the Rugrats and South Park cartoons. Why were they successful? Because their creators went beyond the usual scope of TV work to incorporate real story and character development into the feature-length films.

Recess: School's Out Review

Weak

The bad guy in "Recess: School's Out" is a megalomaniacal ex-elementary school principal determined to do away with summer vacations by altering the orbit of the Moon so there's no more summer.

Voiced by James Woods -- one of Hollywood's greatest scenery-chewers -- this rakish, oily antagonist is by far the most amusing thing about this latest in a seemingly endless glut of cheaply animated TV 'toons cashing in on the purchase power of kids.

Such movies are not concerned with style, creativity or entertainment value for anyone of a discerning age. They don't even bother aspiring to be a "Toy Story," a "Pokemon") and rarely much more than just expanded episodes of the show that spawned them, blown up to 1.85:1 aspect ratio.

Runaway Jury Review

OK

There are enough holes in the legal minutia of "Runaway Jury" to keep anyone with a law degree laughing from beginning to end. But for the rest of us, this fast-paced thriller's twist-crescendo-ing plot and sharp performances should at least delay the feeling of being duped until after the credits roll.

Another popcorny courtroom concoction from a John Grisham novel, the movie is a sensationalized peek into jury tampering during a big-money wrongful-death suit filed against an assault-weapon manufacturer after a workplace shooting.

The film wears its politics on its sleeve: the rich, cigar-smoking, unrepentant gun industry honchos have hired an unscrupulous jury consultant (deliciously iniquitous Gene Hackman) with the high-tech means to dig up dirt and create graphic-intensive computer-screen portfolios on everybody who received a jury summons for the case.
