Jared Leto talk about his role as transgender AIDS sufferer Rayon in his new movie 'Dallas Buyers Club'. He mentions the importance of the physical transformation and the challenges the role brought with it.
'I read the script and immediately I was just blown away', he reveals. 'I fell in love with the character and I felt that this was a real opportunity here to portray a real person, not a cliché or a stereotype.' He praises the courage of the real life Rayon's important life choice. 'It's Texas, it's 1985, you've got this cowboy and this young man who's chosen to live as a woman. A really brave choice; I couldn't imagine how terrifying it must've been to walk through a grocery store at that time', he says. Talking about the challenges of the role, Jared insists they were many. 'Well, you have the big ones; the weight, the voice; but I think the ones that weren't so obvious were the emotional, the psychological, the inside', he explains.
