In possibly controversial news, the casting for DC Comics’ supervillain team-up movie Suicide Squad has been announced, and the biggest news of all is that Jared Leto has been selected to portray the Joker, and starring roles have also been given to Will Smith and Tom Hardy.

Late on Tuesday, Warner Bros. confirmed the highly anticipated casting. Smith will play Deadshot, and Hardy will play the group’s leader Rick Flagg. The rest of the Suicide Squad will be Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

As we await Jared Leto’s ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ follow up, some say a role as The Joker could be on the horizon.
Despite winning an Oscar earlier this year for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, 2014 has been a pretty quite year for Jared Leto, the actor. The 42 year old has instead been spending time working on his other career, as frontman for band 30 Seconds to Mars. But could Leto have finally found his next big screen role as The Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie?
The Hollywood Reporter writes that sources have confirmed to them that Leto may be under consideration for the Joker role in the upcoming supervillain movie. However they also note a deal could be in the very early stages and that calls to both Warner Bros. and Leto’s reps went unreturned.

The Academy-Award winner recently revealed why he still hasn't watched the award-winning biographical drama film.
Even though six months have passed since Jared Leto won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Rayon, an HIV-positive transgender woman, in 'Dallas Buyers Club,' he still hasn't seen the film!

The confession came when the 42 year-old actor/singer took part in a Times Talks interview on Thursday (Aug 14th) with New York Times contributor Logan Hill, and when a clip from the award-winning flick was played, Leto covered his ears.
How is Marvel's latest project shaping up?
For Marvel Dr. Strange isn’t that strange - the studio has put the thrusters behind more obscure franchises in the past. But that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us from Evil, Sinister) is apparently directing a screenplay written by Thomas Dean Donnelly, but as is the case with any Marvel property, the rumors are still flying around.
Will Jared Leto be Marvel's Dr. Strange?
Just for a bit of background: Dr. Strange, born of the 1960s, is a surgeon that suffers a life-changing car accident and eventually heads to the Himalayas. Whilst there, he gains psychic powers and saves the day, protecting the Earth against magical and mystical threats. It’s a bit like Batman, but Strange actually has a non-earthly power to call upon.
Neil Patrick Harris looked as natural in drag at the Tony Awards as he does in a suit and tie. He's not the only actor who's donned drag for a role and never looked back.
So, Neil Patrick Harris basically won the Tonys 2014 (the whole thing) with his performance of "Sugar Daddy" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Harris has been making headlines as the lead in the Broadway show since he joined the cast earlier this year. He’s not the first actor to don drag for a role, these other actors have all dressed up like the fairer sex for performances in the past.

Does Jared Leto have what it takes to play the 'Sorcerer Supreme'?
Marvel’s upcoming Dr Strange movie finally seems to be taking shape with the announcement of Sinister’s Scott Derrickson as director. But while there’s been no casting announcements yet, the rumour doing the rounds on the internet is that Oscar winner Jared Leto is being lined up to play the Sorcerer Supreme. But could Leto really be the right man to bring Dr Strange to life?
Could Jared Leto make a convincing Dr Strange?
Jared Leto is hot right now and we mean this purely in reference to his acting career. Thanks to Dallas Buyers Club, the actor, who moonlights as a rock star (or vice versa), can now add’ Academy Award winner’ to his resume. But even before he took home the Oscar gold, Leto still had a impressive track record thanks to movies like Requiem for a Dream. There’s no doubt that Leto has tremendous versatility as an actor and he cold probably turn his hand to just about anything. But acting prowess aside, could we really see him make a convincing turn as Steven Strange?

Leto's return to acting might feature a turn as Snowden
Jared Leto has expressed an interest in a more consistent return to acting; he’s just been waiting for the right role to come along. Well it looks like that role has arrived in the form of the Oliver Stone Edward Snowden biopic, in which Leto is currently odds on favourite to star as the lead.

The 30 Seconds to Mars lead singer received huge praise for his turn as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club, leading to an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. And despite some calls for transgender actor to have been cast instead of Leto, the general consensus was that he did a marvellous job of portraying the fictional HIV/Aids victim.

Most of us know that Zooey Deschanel and Jared Leto are pretty musical, but there's a bunch of other celebs who also have musical skills on the side!
Those celebs are a talented bunch, sometimes even more than they let on! Lots of them are also skilled musicians on top their acting and directing day jobs. We bet you’ll never believe that some of these famous people have the time to play an instrument on top of all the other projects they’re always involved with.

The falling, the self-deprecation, the goofiness: could it all be to win more column inches?
Jared Leto has caused shock after he suggested that the typically goofy personality of actress Jennifer Lawrence might all be an act designed to create publicity and warm the public to her. The 42 year-old Dallas Buyers Club star was asked by Access Hollywood what he thought of Jennifer's Oscars stumble (her second to date) to which he replied "You know, I'm starting to wonder if this is a bit of an act."
Jared Leto Has Implied That Jennifer Lawrence's Fall Was Fake.
He described the scene where she gingerly climbed the stage to present the award for Best Actor at the ceremony last Sunday whilst Ellen DeGeneres mimed behind her back: "Why are you laughing? What, is this funny? I'm still watching you!" said Lawrence as she tried not to trip for a third time. Jared explained: "But what [J-Law] didn't know was that Ellen was on the side.making, pantomiming 'don't fall, don't fall!' - and my mom and brother are all cracking up."
Oscar, 30 Seconds to Mars Tour, then joining Linkin Park and AFI. Leto's fingers are in many pies, it's true
Jared Leto isn’t like most Oscar winners. He’s been criticised for his role as the transgender character Rayon, and not 48 hours after his Best Supporting Actor win for the role, it has been announced that he and his band – 30 Seconds to Mars – are off on a massive tour with Linkin Park.
30 Seconds to Mars are off on tour with Linkin Park
He and his 16-year-old rock band, will perform in San Diego Sept. 16 at Sleep Train Amphitheatre. They have middle-billing between the headlining Linkin Park and AFI to kick off the Carnivore Tour. Explaining the title of the tour, Linkin Park's Sinoda said: "Carnivores is a metaphor that is meant to convey an appetite for something visceral and substantive, and I feel that’s exactly the hunger this tour will feed."
Jared Leto also revealed that his Oscar is safe-guarded "by some vegan butter and a bag of popcorn," in his kitchen.
It was only days ago that Jared Leto was honored at the 86th annual Academy-Awards.
The 43 year-old was prized with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as an HIV-positive transgender woman, Rayon, in 'Dallas Buyers Club'.
Although the golden statue is said to be a priceless accolade, Leto may have to empty his wallet for repair costs, as he has already admitted to damaging it.

Detractors argue that a transgender actor should have been given the role.
Jared Leto’s Oscar win may have seemed unlikely a few years ago, while the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman was taking a break from the big screen and concentrating on his music, but he was very much the favorite to pick up Best Suuporting Actor for his role as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club on Oscars night – an award that has attracted criticism from certain transgender groups.
Jared Leto and Matthew Mcconaughey as Rayon and Ron Woodruff
While DBC is celebrated for its overarching message, celebrated by its peers in a cinematic context and saw Matthew McConaughey pick up Best Actor for his portrayal of Ron Woodruff, Leto’s role, many feel, could have been played by a transgender actor.
Jared Leto admitted to not yet watching 'Dallas Buyers Club' due to playing "such an intense role."

This year's Oscars were the most 'selfied' yet as the stars shared their pics with the world.
One way to view the Academy Awards last night was through the eyes of the stars themselves, as many of them took to Instagram and Twitter to keep us up to date with their Oscar night happenings.
Some stars started their picture taking before they even got to the ceremony, like Joseph Gordon-Levitt who tweeted a pic of himself literally on his way to the awards, taking a selfie in his limousine. Joseph later shared a picture of himself and co-presenter Emma Watson having fun pulling some faces backstage.

He may be Oscar-nominated but Matthew McConaughey wasn't first on the list.
Matthew Mcconaughey may have pulled off the performance of his career in Dallas Buyers Club but the actor apparently had to convince the movie's directors that he was the right guy to take on the role of entrepreneurial AIDS victim Ron Woodroof.
Matthew McConaughey Was Far From First Choice To Play Ron Woodroof.
Looking at the series of cheesy rom-coms that McConaughey has padded out his career with, it's fairly easy to see why director Jean-Marc Vallee was at first sceptical about casting the classically handsome, all-American beefcake actor. "I wasn't sure about Matthew at first," said Vallee to THR. "Mr. The Most Handsome Man With Muscles? Then I met him and found a man who really wanted to change perceptions and have new challenges in his career."
Oldest is best, for Best Supporting Actor, anyway
Did you know Jared Leto was 42? I didn’t. Anyway, enough of that: here’s why he’ll win the Best Supporting Actor award at this Sunday’s Oscars for his turn as Rayon in the also-nominated Dallas Buyers Club.
Jared Leto WILL take hom Supporting Actor for his role alongside McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club
Nowadays, Leto spends most of his time fronting his indie-rock venture, 30 Seconds to Mars, but his acting work doesn’t come second: he was widely considered to be deserved of a nomination for Darren Aronofsky’s 2000 Requiem for a Dream and has recently been picking up awards for his latest performance alongside Matthew Mcconaughey.
Jared Leto has evolved into one of Hollywood's most interesting stars.
Actor, rockstar and perhaps future Oscar winner, Jared Leto has gone from early 90s teen idol status to one of Hollywood's most dedicated, critically acclaimed actors. The now 41 year old star has had a career evolution over the past 20 years with more than a few surprises along the way.
Jared Leto star of Dallas Buyers Club could take home the Oscar next month
Leto’s breakthrough role was opposite Claire Danes in the 1994 TV show ‘My So-Called Life’. Although the series was short lived, running for only one season it was critically acclaimed and would later gain a cult following. He landed his first big screen role in 1995 ensemble cast drama’ How to Make an American Quilt’. After ‘My So-Called Life’ ended Leto was inevitably painted as a teen heartthrob, and although his film choices weren't always obvious, such as 1996’s 'High Kings ‘ and ‘Switchback’ in 1997, he was stil yet to land a major film role.

Ahead of The Oscars, the Dallas Buyers Club stars talk to Contact Music about the roles that got them nominated
A few years ago, it would’ve been nigh-on impossible to imagine Matthew McCaonaughy as an Oscar favourite. But that’s exactly what he is. In fact, he and Jared Leto, who star and stun in Dallas Buyers Club, are in line to each take home a statuette on March 2nd.
Matthew Mcconaughey and Jared Leto in The Dallas Buyers Club
McConaughey plays Ron Woodruff, the true-to-life cowboy-turned-activist, who himself was given 30 days to live after contracting the HIV/Aids virus.
In telling this remarkable true story, director Jean-Marc Vallee (The Young Victoria) and his gifted cast keep the characters and events so grounded that we can't help but get caught up in their story. The film never asks for our sympathy, but it earns it over and over again as it explores a disgraceful period in American history when businesses and the government essentially condemned millions to death by withholding proper treatment for HIV and Aids.
It begins in 1985, when homophobic womaniser Ron Woodroof (McConaughey) is told that he has just a month to live. Refusing to believe that he has the same disease that has just killed Rock Hudson, he ignores his doctors (Garner and O'Hare) to find his own supply of AZT, which makes him even more ill. So he heads to Mexico to find a range of treatment the US government has refused to approve, and he imports them himself, creating a members' club to subvert the law. This requires that he set his deep-seated prejudice aside so he can work with the transgendered Rayon (Leto). But a government lawyer (O'Neill) is determined to shut him down.
Yes, it's deeply infuriating to watch the American system try so hard to stop Woodruff from saving lives. Government officials continually outlaw his effective treatments so they can pawn off the toxic, over-priced AZT instead. So Woodruff travels the world in search of new medicine, and his business of course takes off. Vallee cleverly cuts through the 1980s period details to reveal Woodruff's earthy tenacity and an overpowering sense of humanity.

Leto has recently appeared in Dallas Buyers' Club as Rayon, a transgender woman. The hecklers, when Leto asked what they meant, stated Leto didn't "deserve to play a trans woman." Leto was, understandably, perplexed and asked the woman why. He said, as PEOPLE reports, "Because I'm a man, I don't deserve to play that part. So you want to hold a role against someone who happened to be gay or lesbian, they can't play a straight part?"

Golden Globes successes brought Oscar nominations speculation this week as movie awards overshadow all other news.
Golden Globes Glory: Last weekend's Golden Globe awards set hearts racing ahead of March's Oscars with plenty of deserving winners next to a few jaw-dropping snubs. 12 Years A Slave predictably came out on top with the big gong but a few unpredictabilities set award odds and Oscars speculation askew. Newbie comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine saw off rivals to claim two awards whilst Blue Jasmine's Cate Blanchett took the leading lady award alongside Dallas Buyers Club's for the men.
Gravity's Alfonso Cuarón stole Best Director from Steve McQueen whilst Breaking Bad and Behind The Candelabra snatched the big TV awards. The surprise wins also made for some truly memorable speeches too, with Elisabeth Moss exclamation of "Oh s**t!" and Jacqueline Bisset's sweary ramble marking two particular highlights. Both actors won awards for playing LGBT characters, but did they really get under the skin?
Jared Leto and Michael Douglas each won a Golden Globe award last night for their stand-out performances in very different films. Both actors' characters share the similarity of being part of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) community with Leto's Rayon a transgender woman suffering with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club and Douglas' gay Liberace lifted from real life in Behind The Candelabra.
Michael Douglas Raised Some Eyebrows With An Insensitive Acceptance Speech.
With such high profile awards for what would have traditionally been controversial roles, the actors' wins mark a great leap forward for the portrayal of LGBT characters in movies and a move to eradicate homophobia and stereotyping in cinema. Whilst these positives cannot be denied, it has been noted in the wake of the initial glow and glamour of the awards that not every aspect of Leto and Douglas' win is cause for celebration.
The Golden Globes went out to some pretty deserving nominees, but what about the ones we didn't expect to win?

Oscar time for McConaughey and Jared Leto?
It’s official, Matthew Mcconaughey’s days as an up-and-coming, comedy actor are over. But it’s the 44-year-old’s performance as Ron Woodruff that has the critic’s heads in a spin.
