Jared Leto Set To Sign Up For Marvel / Sony 'Spider-Man' Spin-Off 'Morbius'

Jared Leto

Jared Leto is to make the jump from DC’s Extended Universe into the world of its rival Marvel, reportedly signing up to play the title role in the Sony/Marvel off-shoot Morbius, The Living Vampire.

The 46 year old star, who played The Joker in DC’s blockbuster Suicide Squad back in 2016 and is set to star in the sequel and a solo spin-off in the franchise’s extended cinematic universe, is now apparently going to straddle universes by signing up for an upcoming Spider-Man spin-off, to join other Marvel side-projects like Tom Hardy's Venom.

Leto’s character, Michael Morbius, is a biologist who accidentally infects himself with a virus that transforms him into a fanged vampire creature with a thirst for blood. Morbius was often portrayed as a nemesis for Spider-Man in his early incarnations – he was a creation of Marvel’s Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in 1971 - but later was depicted as a kind of anti-hero.

Jared Leto To Star In And Produce Solo Joker DC Movie

Jared Leto

The (unofficially titled) DC Extended Universe will be expanding once more if a new report is to be believed, as Jared Leto's version of the Clown Prince of Crime looks set to get his own solo movie. Having debuted in the DCEU as part of 'Suicide Squad', Leto's Joker has been the source of criticism by many, but that hasn't stopped those at Warner Bros. from putting their faith in moving forward with the actor as the psychotic DC villain.

Refusing to put all of their eggs in one basket however, WB are also working on putting out a Joker origins story separate from the DCEU, with Joaquin Phoenix looking likely to slide into the role. It's a good job the character is one the fans can never get enough of!

Jared Leto Says Gavin O'Connor Is "Perfect Director" For 'Suicide Squad 2'

Jared Leto

As the Clown Prince of Crime and following the debut he made in 'Suicide Squad', Jared Leto has truly divided opinions with his portrayal of Batman's most formidable opponent, the Joker. With incomparable talents like Mark Hamill and Heath Ledger setting the bar so high, there were lofty expectations when Leto's version of the criminal was announced.

Different to any version of the Joker we've ever seen in live-action before, but harbouring a lot of the personality we've seen from various incarnations in the DC Comics world, Leto's Joker was another delve into the world of insanity for Joker fans. Excitingly, this time round we got to see him interacting with Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie.

Blade Runner 2049 Review

Excellent

It's been 35 years since Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi classic, which was set in 2019. This sequel is once again a visual spectacle that mixes super-cool images with a jaggedly engaging noir-style mystery that grapples with issues of memory and identity. It's a staggeringly beautiful epic, as director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) invests intelligence and artistry into each imaginative setting. He also avoids falling into the standard structure of an action blockbuster, skipping hackneyed things like chase scenes for much deeper emotions.

In the past 30 years, earth's eco-system has collapsed, leaving people scrambling for resources in grimy mega-cities like Los Angeles. Human-like replicants have been refined, but blade runners like K (Ryan Gosling) are still on hand to hunt down old models that have gone rogue. Then K discovers a skeleton of a replicant that apparently gave birth, which should be impossible. So K's boss (Robin Wright) instructs him to hunt down the child and erase all evidence. But Wallace (Jared Leto), head of the monolithic corporation that controls all technology, wants to find the child himself. He sends his favourite sidekick Luv (Sylvia Hoeks) to follow K and his virtual girlfriend Joi (Ana de Armas) as they track down long-lost blade runner Deckerd (Harrison Ford), who is hiding in radioactive Las Vegas and might have some answers.

The plot is packed with implications that get K's mind spinning with possibilities, and the audience's as well. And Gosling is terrific as a guy who is cold on the surface, only barely concealing his conflicting feelings. His scenes with de Armas are superb, as she offers him some romantic hope amid the doom and gloom. Gosling and Ford also generate some terrific chemistry, exchanging physical and verbal blows. And as the villain and his henchwoman, Leto and Hoeks bring plenty of menace.

Harrison Ford Ryan Gosling Jared Leto

The first full trailer for 'Blade Runner 2049' is finally here and we can hardly take our eyes off of it. With stunning sci-fi imagery and some intensely mysterious scenes featuring Blade Runners and Replicants, this is the reason it's one of the most anticipated films of the year.

We've already had a glimmer of Ryan Gosling and returning star Harrison Ford in action with the teaser, but this new clip sees a very sinister-looking Jared Leto as milky-eyed Replicant manufacturer Wallace. At this point, his softly spoken and yet creepy disposition is ambiguous, but we're sure he's a bad guy.
