The actor’s ‘Hamlet’ commitments nearly cost him the superhero role.
Benedict Cumberbatch will make his superhero debut in next year in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. But it almost wasn’t to be for the ‘Sherlock’ actor, as his commitments to stage play Hamlet nearly cost him the role.
Benedict Cumberbatch filming Doctor Strange
Speaking to Empire magazine, the film’s director Scott Derrickson said that Cumberbatch was “the only actor we seriously considered” for the superhero role. But unfortunately, Cumberbatch had already signed on to play Hamlet at London’s Barbican in the autumn of 2015.
Leto is also due to co-produce the project, alongside 'The Social Network's Michael De Luca.
He’s already taken on the prestigious role of The Joker this year, but now Jared Leto is set to tackle the role of a real-life cultural icon, with the announcement that he’s to produce and star in a new biopic about Andy Warhol.

Leto’s turn as the green haired villain was highly anticipated by fans, but the film’s final cut left them wanting more.
Suicide Squad actor Jared Leto is just as disappointed as fans are about The Joker’s lack of screen time in the comic book movie. Despite being heavily featured in the film’s trailers, Leto’s Joker doesn’t appear much in the actual movie, with a lot of his scenes being left on the cutting room floor.
Jared Leto as Suicide Squad’s Joker
When asked by IGN if he was upset about any of his scenes getting cut, the actor responded: “Were there any that didn’t get cut? I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start.
After winning an Oscar for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, Jared Leto waited three years before choosing another role.
And he decided to take on the iconic supervillain Joker in the DC Comics thriller Suicide Squad. It's a brash move, but Leto says he loved the film's originality. "You can anticipate a lot of chaos and a hell of a lot of fun," he says. "And I think it's something completely different than other movies in the genre."
An actor who also fronts a rock band (30 Seconds to Mars), Leto says he doesn't have a master plan, even after winning an Academy Award. "My career has had a nice slow burn," he says. "I never woke up one day and all of a sudden my life changed. And I'm grateful for that, because I think it has allowed me the time and space to adjust accordingly, to find out where and how I'm comfortable doing things. A little bit has been fate. Some of it's been design. Fame has never been a target for me."

According to Perez Hilton, the actress captioned the post: “Who wore it better? Who based his whole music and film career on the film, The Crow?”
Leto plays The Joker in the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ movie and the actor went deep into the villain’s psyche to prepare for the role.

In 1989’s Batman the role was taken on by the legendary Jack Nicholson then in 2008 The Joker was reimagined through Heath Ledger’s portrayal in The Dark Knight, but now it’s Leto’s turn to make the role his own.

There's a lot to get through, and that's certainly not the end.
Losing track of the upcoming DC Comics movies? We're here to help you out with that, and stop you getting confused with Marvel. All you need to know right now is that 'Suicide Squad' comes this summer and we'll be seeing a lot more of Batman and Superman over the next four years.
'Suicide Squad' is coming this August
Here's the DC schedule so far:
This is one scary movie we're definitely looking forward to.
A re-boot for one of the scariest Stephen King films ever released, 'It', is finally coming next year with Andrés Muscietti named as director. However, there's no-one yet attached to the lead villain role of evil shape-shifting clown Pennywise. So who do you think should play him?
Will Poulter from 'The Revenant' was originally in talks for the part, but news has emerged that he has backed out. There's no word yet on whether or not Tim Curry will reprise the role, though it's definitely unlikely as much as we'd love to see him back. Let's look at the specs: Pennywise has his insane laugh, wide smile, gruff voice and is largely humorous. So who could rock those traits the best?
Jim Carrey has clowned around plenty of times before

It seems that method actor Leto took his role as The Joker very seriously.
Suicide Squad actress Viola Davis has recalled her on-set introduction to co-star Jared Leto and it’s enough to make you gag. The actress stars opposite Leto in the upcoming supervillan movie and says the actor really committed to his role and had some ‘horrific’ gifts for his fellow cast members.
Viola Davis and the cast of Suicide Squad got a gag-worthy gift from co-star Jared Leto.
“The Joker, he did some bad things, Jared Leto did,” Davis told Vanity Fair. “He gave some really horrific gifts. “He had a henchman who would come into the rehearsal room and the henchman came in with a dead pig and plopped it on the table and then he walked out and that was our introduction into Jared Leto.”
