Jane Leeves, the British actress best known for her role in the hit US sitcom 'Frasier', starred in last night's season two premiere of 'Hot in Cleveland', which featured an on-screen reunion between Betty White and Mary Tyler Moore. The highly anticipated new season picked up where August's finale left of, with White's character 'Elka' being hauled away to jail and accused of stealing a stash of valuable jewellery.
Last night's premiere saw Joy (Leeves) attempting to free 'Elka' from prison, who had found herself sharing a cell with a character played by Tyler Moore. It is the first time in over 30 years that the two close friends have shared the screen and speaking about the reunion the show's executive producer TODD MILLINER told Entertainment Weekly, "There will be a couple of winks to their history together, and we also built in a fun way for them to have been related in Cleveland. Not related as in family, but connected. They might have known each other. They might have met before. So we are paying homage to what Betty and Mary have done in the past and also having a little fun with how they could have met in Cleveland". Milliner also revealed a few of the storylines for season two, confirming that White's character will stay in prison for the time being and that Joy "is on a constant pursuit to get a green card so she can actually stay in Cleveland".
Leeves recently spoke to US Magazine about 89-year-old White and in particular her diet, she said, "She eats crap. She eats Red Vines, hot dogs, French fries and Diet Coke. If that's key, maybe she's preserved because of all the preservatives".
