Jamie Foxx can thank British director Sam Mendes for helping him avoid all the OSCAR "hoopla" - by casting him in his latest movie.

The American Beauty film-maker believes giving Foxx a role in the drama JARHEAD, which they are currently filming in California, has enabled Foxx to keep his feet firmly on the ground following his Best Actor win at this year's (05) ACADEMY AWARDS for his role in Ray Charles biopic, RAY.

Mendes says, "I don't think people realise what a big deal this is for Jamie.

"He comes from a small town (Terrell, Texas) and he has come from there all the way to an Oscar.

"I think he has been glad to have Jarhead because it has given him something to do while all the hoopla was going on."
