Singer James Morrison's father died from liver disease after a six-month drinking binge, it was revealed at an inquest on Monday (06Dec10).
The You Give Me Something hitmaker's dad Paul Catchpole was discovered by paramedics at a property in Warwickshire, England in August (10), surrounded by empty beer cans. But he passed away before he could be taken to a hospital.
On Monday (06Dec10) Coventry Coroner's Court heard Catchpole, who had battled alcohol addiction for 20 years, had been helped home by a passer-by after he collapsed in a street.
Morrison was said to be "devastated" at the time of the death, while his sister, Nicky, spoke out after the inquest to reveal how the star had "tried desperately" to help his father overcome his demons.
She told reporters, "James was very close to him. He offered to buy him a flat so he could get healthy. But it was no use."
