Actor James McAvoy wanted to be a missionary before pursuing a career in acting - but not for religious reasons. The Last King Of Scotland star saw the profession as a way out of his native Scotland rather than a means to spread God's word. He says, "I wanted to become a missionary. Not really because I was a good Catholic, or because I wanted to be celibate for the rest of my days - it was because I wanted to get away and explore the world, and have a good laugh. "But it didn't take me long to realise that becoming a priest and a missionary wasn't the best way to do that."
