Movie star James Franco gave the stage adaptation of his mother's book The Metamorphosis: Junior Year a big boost on Monday night (07Mar11) when he showed up to shoot the production as part of his upcoming documentary.
The 127 Hours star took a break from his studies at Yale University to head home to California and film footage of the play at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre.
Franco's mother Betsy made sure there was a full house for the play by tweeting about the actor's plans to capture the cast and the audience over the weekend (06Mar11).
During the intermission, she told reporters, "This is my Oscars. I went to my son's Oscars, and now he's come to mine."
Franco plans to use the footage in his upcoming documentary about the play's production.
Director/producer Lacey Dorn says, "The documentary aims to show how this creative process has become an outlet for the teens involved in it."
The star posted backstage footage via his Twitter.com account on Tuesday (08Mar11).
