The wrecked car in which screen icon James Dean died in 1955 has disappeared without trace - and there is a $1 million (GBP556,000) reward for its safe return.

The Porsche Spyder was bought by the Dean's pal George Barris following the fatal accident, and he recently lent it to police to add a touch of realism to safety demonstrations.

But the macabre relic went missing after just one display, and the Volo Auto Museum in Illinois hopes to secure the vehicle's return in time for its exhibition honouring the 50th anniversary of the GIANT star's death on 30 September (05).
