Brosnan, who starred as 007 from 1995 until 2002's Die Another Day, has hit out producers for dismissing the Star Wars heart-throb from the running because he is considered too short at 1.77 metres (5 feet 10 inches).
And Moore is also adamant both McGregor's physical stature and star quality are more than sufficient to bring Bond back to the big screen in upcoming movie Casino Royale.
He says, "I respect all the people who have been reported as being in the running for the role but for me, Ewan is the best.
"I don't think he would be (too short). When I started out as James Bond, there were all sorts of things about me and people said I was too young for the part or that my hair was too long, but it didn't spoil my performance."
