Jake Gyllenhaal, Vanessa Redgrave and America Ferrera are up for top honours at the 28th annual Lucille Lortel Awards celebrating the best in Off-Broadway theatre.

Gyllenhall has received an Outstanding Featured Actor nomination for his U.S. stage debut in Nick Payne's play If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet, while Redgrave (The Revisionist) and Ferrera (Bethany) will battle it out for the Outstanding Lead Actress trophy.

August Wilson's The Piano Lesson leads the nominations with six nods including Outstanding Revival and Outstanding Director for Ruben Santiago-Hudson, while Brandon J. Dirden, Roslyn Ruff and Chuck Cooper will all compete for acting prizes.

The Roundabout Theatre Company's artistic director Todd Haimes will receive this year's (13) Lifetime Achievement Award and writer/director Neil LaBute will be inducted into the Playwrights' Sidewalk, the Off-Broadway equivalent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The ceremony will take place at New York University's (Nyu) Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, hosted by Maura Tierney and Aasif Mandvi, who is also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor for Disgraced, on 5 May (13).
